TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined the extent to which job demands and resources are related to job stress and engagement among young employees exposed to remote work and found that the difficulty of work tasks is positively related to stress while time spent working from home, managing work-life balance and receiving support from leaders are negatively related to work stress.
Abstract: PurposeThe study examines the extent to which job demands and resources are related to job stress and engagement among young employees exposed to remote work. The study draws on the job demands–resources (JD-R) model, adapted to working from home during the pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThe study uses data from a survey among young employees (35 years and younger) in a large, telecommunications company in Norway (N = 303), conducted in May 2021. Linear regression analysis was employed.FindingsThe results show that the difficulty of work tasks is positively related to stress while time spent working from home, managing work–life balance and receiving support from leaders are negatively related to stress. Furthermore, overtime, support from leaders and colleagues and managing work–life balance are positively related to job engagement. Having a dedicated workspace at home is not related to either job stress or engagement and no gender differences exist.Originality/valueThe study theoretically contributes to the literature by showing that the nature of work plays out differently for the well-being of employees working from home. In terms of practical implications, the study suggests that adjusting the level of difficulty of work tasks and providing support can alleviate stress among young employees. Providing the option to work from home may reduce stress among these young employees, however working from home may face limitations regarding enhancing job engagement.

Abstract: This study aims to examine the effect of work life balance and burnout on job satisfaction and its impact on Employee Performance. This study uses explanatory quantitative research on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java with 35 respondents processed using the SEM-CB approach. The results of the study indicate that work life balance directly influences Job Satisfactions on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java, burnout directly influences Job Satisfactions on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java, work life balance directly influences Employee Performance on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java, burnout directly influences Employee Performance on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java, and job satisfaction directly influences Employee Performance on Central Statistics Agency (BPS) West Java

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the relationship between quality of work life (QWL), work-life balance (WLB), and quality of life with reference to corporate social responsibility (CSR) approaches used at the Shangri-La, B&B and Rui hotel companies.
Abstract: PurposeThe study investigates the relationship between quality of work life (QWL), work–life balance (WLB) and quality of life (QoL), with reference to corporate social responsibility (CSR) approaches used at the Shangri-La, B&B and Rui hotel companies.Design/methodology/approachThe study draws on the literature and on comparative case study analysis of three very different companies.Findings The findings indicate that CSR practices have a positive impact on QoL, regardless of company size, location or type of initiative, and that they underline the importance of education as a key to success.Originality/valueThis article concentrates on the concept of QoL and explores different applications of the idea in various environments.

TL;DR: In this paper , the interplay among childcare policy, schedule control, and its relationship with work-life balance was examined, showing that sufficient childcare intervention and its interaction with schedule control are necessary to offset the negative effect of childcare services on worklife balance.
Abstract: Variable time work is no longer abnormal in the post‐industrial economy and is accelerating due to digitisation and the COVID‐19 pandemic. Previous studies have revealed a causal relationship between working time variability and work–life balance at the individual level;however, there has been less discussion of the role of the institutional context. This study examines the interplay among childcare policy, schedule control, and its relationship with work–life balance. We conducted a multilevel analysis using the European Working Conditions Survey. The analyses revealed that childcare policy has a U‐shaped relationship with work–life balance for female variable time workers without schedule control. In contrast, workers with schedule control and male workers did not have a curvilinear relationship with the outcome. Our analyses imply that sufficient childcare intervention and its interaction with schedule control are necessary to offset the negative effect of childcare services on work–life balance. Abstract: Purpose. The paper presents a theoretical analysis of approaches to work-life balance research and findings of an empirical study of this construct in a sample of employees of a Russian production enterprise (N = 1205) situated in six regions of the country. Methodology. The survey relied on two approaches to work-life balance operationalization, a direct subjective evaluation of work-life relationships and an evaluation of importance, effort invested, and satisfaction across six life spheres (work, family, hobbies, socialization, health, and education). The dependent variables included life satisfaction, work engagement, emotional burnout, and workaholism. Using confirmatory factor analysis, we developed 11 short scales reflecting different types of work-life relationship (balance, conflict, negative spillover, positive spillover, compensation, independence). The scales were sufficiently reliable for research purposes. Predictable weak to moderate associations with dependent variables indicated convergent validity of the new subjective work-life balance scales. Work-life balance was more positively evaluated by females, older respondents, those with higher education and position, and higher family income. Using hierarchical regression analysis, we found a number of gender differences in the associations of subjective balance and other dependent variables with the distribution of priorities and efforts across the six life spheres, revealing different approaches to positive work-life balance in working males and females. A balanced distribution of priorities and efforts was an essential predictor of well-being in working males. Working females reported higher well-being when they viewed work as a life priority, but invested efforts in family and their own health.
