Abstract: The role of working women has changed throughout the world due to economic conditions and social demands. This has resulted in a scenario in which working women have tremendous pressure to develop a career as robust as their male counterparts while sustaining active engagement in personal life. The ever- increasing work pressure is taking a toll on the working women leaving them with less time for themselves. The increasing responsibilities on the personal front with the technological blessings like advanced mobile phones, notepads, etc. that keeps work life integrated with personal life also creates stress on personal and professional fronts in this knowledge age. This affects the person's physical, emotional and social well-being. Thus, achieving work life balance is a necessity for working women to have a good quality of life. This paper is an attempt to explore the tough challenges faced by working women in maintaining a balance between their personal and professional life. The various factors affecting the work-life balance of married working women have been examined in this study. The tool used for the study is the manual on work-life balance of The Industrial Society (now the Work Foundation) by Daniels and McCarraher. Data were subjected to descriptive statistics and it was found that the problems faced by the working women of Pondicherry in terms of work-life balance are quite high. The results also indicate that the work-life balance of individuals affect their quality of life.

Abstract: Work-life balance has become a topic of increasing interest in the media as well as a concern among working Canadians. Since print media discourse can both reflect and shape societal values, cultural norms and ideals of workers in this country, it is important to understand this representation and its potential influence on the occupational engagement and life transitions of Canadian workers. Articles from four major Canadian newspapers published between 2003 and 2005 were used as data sources to examine the media construction of "work-life balance". Thematic analysis of 100 articles was performed using a modified affinity diagramming process. Representations within the Canadian print media conveyed both themes pertaining to the perceived experiences of imbalance and balance, as well as, a process of life balance. Obtaining balance was portrayed as an ongoing process during which an individual negotiates and sacrifices in an attempt to achieve his or her ideal level of balance. Environmental expectations and individual practices and perceptions were conveyed as reasons for the success or derailment of balance. The representations of work-life balance found in the Canadian print media were predominantly of professionals, focused on the demands of work and family, and did not appear to be a broad representation of the multiple realities that all Canadians face.

Abstract: Today we see women working in almost all types of professions demonstrating that there is no gender difference in work. In fact many organisations say that women are playing a major role in uplifting the organization. This is a positive development that women are making their presence felt in different walks of life. On the other hand, for every woman there is one more background to manage. That is home and personal life. Today with increasing demands at work place, the interface between work life and personal life assumed significance which demands more attention. Different factors affect work –life balance and one set of factors could be demographic variables. The present study is undertaken to determine the relationship between the demographic variables and work life balance. Women employees in various professions like IT, BPO, Marketing, Insurance, Banking and Education at Bangalore constitute the universe for the study and a sample of 340 employees is chosen using stratified random sampling method. The hypothesis is tested using chi-square test and it has revealed that there is significant relationship between demographic variables and work life balance. Abstract: This article examines the work–life balance system in Italy, with particular regard to the role played by extra-statutory arrangements and provision – extra leave, benefits and allowances for parents provided by employers, in-company creches, family-friendly working hours, etc. – originated from collective bargaining and industrial relations at company-level. The Italian pattern of welfare state and women's employment is characterised by weak state support, a relevant role of intergenerational solidarity, one of the lowest fertility rates and still low women's activity rates. As for human resource management and industrial relations’ contribution to work–life balance, empirical evidence shows that a certain number of extra-statutory arrangements and provision has been implemented at company level.
