TL;DR: In this paper, the copied task objects describing a successfully-completed workflow process instance are copied and generalized in the relevant variables thereof, so that the entire workflow process is thus generalized for direct re-use in an amended workflow process definition.
Abstract: In workflow management software, task objects describing a successfully-completed workflow process instance are copied The copied task objects are then generalized in the relevant variables thereof, so that the entire workflow process is thus generalized for direct re-use in an amended workflow process definition In this way, ad-hoc amendments to the workflow process, such as those initiated by the persons who collaborate in the work process, can be easily incorporated into a new work process

TL;DR: It is presented here how several recent techniques relying on machine and deep learning can be used to analyze the activities taking place during surgery, using videos captured from either endoscopic or ceiling-mounted cameras.
Abstract: Recent years have seen tremendous progress in artificial intelligence (AI), such as with the automatic and real-time recognition of objects and activities in videos in the field of computer vision. Due to its increasing digitalization, the operating room (OR) promises to directly benefit from this progress in the form of new assistance tools that can enhance the abilities and performance of surgical teams. Key for such tools is the recognition of the surgical workflow, because efficient assistance by an AI system requires this system to be aware of the surgical context, namely of all activities taking place inside the operating room. We present here how several recent techniques relying on machine and deep learning can be used to analyze the activities taking place during surgery, using videos captured from either endoscopic or ceiling-mounted cameras. We also present two potential clinical applications that we are developing at the University of Strasbourg with our clinical partners.

TL;DR: In this paper, an event-based scheduling method and system for providing automatic activity synchronization and automatic data exchange between workflows and between workflow and other applications is presented, where an automatic synchronization mechanism is provided for enabling workflows to interact with other workflows or other applications to automatically synchronize activity execution.
Abstract: An event-based scheduling method and system for providing automatic activity synchronization and automatic data exchange between workflows and between workflows and other applications. An automatic synchronization mechanism is provided for enabling workflows to interact with other workflows or other applications to automatically synchronize activity execution. An automatic data exchange mechanism is provided for enabling workflows to exchange data with other workflows or other applications. An event processing pre-compilation architecture receives a workflow definition having at least one event node and responsive thereto generates a workflow definition without event nodes at compile time. Each event node is replaced with a translated workflow node that conforms to the syntax supported by the underlying workflow engine. The translated workflow node is also assigned to an application that can implement the desired event node semantics. An event processing run-time architecture invokes the application assigned to the translated node when the translated node is encountered. The application employs a publication and subscription tool for automatically performing activity synchronization and/or data exchange at run time.

TL;DR: The metan R package is described, a collection of functions that implement a workflow-based approach to check, manipulate and summarise typical MET data, and how they integrate into a workflow to explore and analyze MET data.
Abstract: Multi-environment trials (MET) are crucial steps in plant breeding programs that aim increasing crop productivity to ensure global food security. The analysis of MET data requires the combination of several approaches including data manipulation, visualization, and modeling. As new methods are proposed, analyzing MET data correctly and completely remains a challenge, often intractable with existing tools. Here we describe the metan R package, a collection of functions that implement a workflow-based approach to (a) check, manipulate and summarise typical MET data; (b) analyze individual environments using both fixed and mixed-effect models; (c) compute parametric and non-parametric stability statistics; (c) implement biometrical models widely used in MET analysis; and (d) plot typical MET data quickly. In this paper, we present a summary of the functions implemented in metan and how they integrate into a workflow to explore and analyze MET data. We guide the user along a gentle learning curve and show how adding only a few commands or options at a time, powerfull analyzes can be implemented. metan offers a flexible, intuitive, and richly documented working environment with tools that will facilitate the implementation of a complete analysis of MET data sets.
