TL;DR: A process analysis tool (PISA) that can be employed to analyze the audit trail data of different workflow management systems in conjunction with target data from business process modeling tools is developed.
Abstract: Workflow management systems enable the exact and timely analysis of automated business processes through the analysis of logged audit trail data. Within the research project CONGO, we develop a process analysis tool (PISA) that can be employed to analyze the audit trail data of different workflow management systems in conjunction with target data from business process modeling tools. A working prototype has been completed that integrates data of the ARIS Toolset and IBM MQSeries Workflow. The analysis focuses on three different perspectives: processes and functions, involved resources, and process objects. We outline the economic aspects of workflow based process monitoring and control and the current state of the art in monitoring facilities provided by current workflow management systems and existing standards. After a discussion of the three evaluation perspectives, sample evaluation methods for each perspective are discussed. The concept and architecture of PISA are described and implementation issues are outlined before an outlook on further research is given.

TL;DR: A multidimension workflow net that include multiple TWF-nets and the organization and resource information is proposed and a method for computing the lower bound of average turnaround time of transaction instances processed in a MWF-net is proposed.
Abstract: Workflow model analysis is performed at logic, temporal, and performance levels. This paper mainly deals with the performance level issues. Workflow net (WF-net) is extended with time information to the timing workflow net (TWF-net). To provide a formal framework for modeling and analyzing workflow, this paper proposes a multidimension workflow net (MWF-net) that include multiple TWF-nets and the organization and resource information. The algorithm to decompose a free-choice and acyclic Petri nets (PN) into a set of T-components is extended to a TWF-net containing iteration structures. Then, resource availability and workload analysis is performed. A method for computing the lower bound of average turnaround time of transaction instances processed in a MWF-net is proposed. Finally a case study is used to show that the proposed method can be effectively utilized in practice.

TL;DR: In this article, an enterprise wide electronic commerce system allows trading partners to act as participants in a complex trading process, where participants communicate with one another by joining conversations that are hosted in a collaboration space and managed by a collaboration hub.
Abstract: An enterprise wide electronic commerce system (Fig. 5) allows trading partners (134, 136, 138, Fig. 5) to act as participants in a complex trading process. Participants communicate with one another by joining conversations that are hosted in a collaboration space and managed by a collaboration hub (132, Fig. 5). In this manner, the enterprise workflow may have an effect on, or be affected by, local workflows. That is, they may share information and interact with one another.

TL;DR: In this paper, a network-enabled workflow system is used in conjunction with a rules-based search engine to provide an easy-touse interface to build workflow processes that facilitate the support for electronic business applications as well as business-to-business relationships.
Abstract: A network-enabled workflow system is used in conjunction with a rules-based search engine to provide an easy-to-use interface to build workflow processes that facilitate the support for electronic business applications as well as business-to-business relationships. The system allows workflow services to be rendered to external organizations such as partners, suppliers, distributors and customers. Workflow services are preferably represented by roles that can be used to represent workflow actors in the workflow routing rules. These roles are preferably evaluated at run-time to best match recipients (via the MORSE algorithm) depending on the organization context from which the routing request is made. Furthermore, the network-enabled workflow system provides for the analysis of workflow processes in real time.

TL;DR: In this paper, each step of a workflow is modeled as an activity that has metadata to describe design time aspects, compile time aspects and runtime aspects of the workflow step, and the user can modify the metadata to affect execution without recompiling the workflow.
Abstract: Modifying a componentized workflow model during execution of the workflow. Each step of the workflow is modeled as an activity that has metadata to describe design time aspects, compile time aspects, and runtime aspects of the workflow step. A user selects and arranges the activities to create the workflow via user interfaces or application programming interfaces. Metadata is associated with each of the activities in the workflow. During execution of the workflow, the user modifies the metadata to affect execution of the workflow without recompiling the workflow.
