TL;DR: It is shown that extensive rearrangement reactions lead to the formation of unexpected fragments which are identified for the first time by the use of high resolving mass power.
Abstract: Surprising fragmentation reactions in different xanthene dyes have been investigated by means of photodissociation and collision-induced dissociation in a 9.4 T FT-ICR mass spectrometer. It is shown that extensive rearrangement reactions lead to the formation of unexpected fragments which are identified for the first time by the use of high resolving mass power. The observed reactions are an example of the fragmentation of a quinoidal even-electron cation. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

TL;DR: Aryl or alkyl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthene derivatives were synthesized efficiently by the reaction of 2-naphthol and aromatic or aliphatic aldehydes in the presence of polyvinylsulfonic acid (PVSA) as a reusable Bronsted acid catalyst under aqueous conditions at 90°C.
Abstract: Aryl or alkyl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthene derivatives were synthesized efficiently by the reaction of 2-naphthol and aromatic or aliphatic aldehydes in the presence of polyvinylsulfonic acid (PVSA) as a reusable Bronsted acid catalyst under aqueous conditions at 90 °C. This reaction was studied under different conditions, and several solvents were examined. In terms of reaction yield and time, water was found to be the optimum solvent. The catalytic performance of PVSA was then compared with various acidic catalysts under optimized reaction conditions. The catalyst is well characterized using IR and DSC techniques.

TL;DR: In this article, a new aromatic ring-layered polymers consisting of carbazole as a layered aromatic group and xanthene as a scaffold were designed and synthesized via the Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reaction.
Abstract: New aromatic ring-layered polymers consisting of carbazole as a layered aromatic group and xanthene as a scaffold were designed and synthesized via the Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reaction. Their optical and electrochemical behaviors were investigated in detail; the results showed that these polymers could be used as hole-transporting materials. Polymers with nitrobenzene moieties at the polymer chain ends quenched the emission from the layered carbazoles to the nitrobenzene termini; thus, the polymers acted as the molecular wire that transferred photoexcited energy and/or electrons to the polymer termini. TL;DR: In this article, the mononuclear compound (bpy)Re(CO)3Cl(bpy-Re, with bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) was shown to activate CO2.
Abstract: Mechanistic studies on dinuclear complexes that can activate CO2 are rare. Based on the investigations done for the mononuclear compound (bpy)Re(CO)3Cl (bpy-Re, with bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine), many re...
