TL;DR: The excellent photocatalytic activity of the PVP-modified MoS3 nanoparticles can be attributed to its good dispersion in water, amorphous nature and limited layers with abundant surface active sites, and possibly higher conduction band potential for proton reduction and larger indirect band gap for a longer lifetime of the excited electrons.
Abstract: Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-modified MoS3 nanoparticles with unusual water solubility up to 1.0 mg mL(-1) were synthesized through a facile hydrothermal method in the presence of thioacetic acid. The amorphous nanoparticles wrapped by PVP have sizes of around 2.5 nm, which represent the smallest MoS3 clusters reported. The photocatalytic performance of the MoS3 nanoparticles was evaluated under visible light for H2 evolution using xanthene dyes as photosensitizers. The quantum efficiency of the optimized system for H2 evolution under green light irradiation (520 nm) is up to 36.2 %, which is comparable with those of other excellent photocatalytic systems involving earth-abundant catalysts. The excellent photocatalytic activity can be attributed to its good dispersion in water, amorphous nature and limited layers with abundant surface active sites, and possibly higher conduction band potential for proton reduction and larger indirect band gap for a longer lifetime of the excited electrons.

TL;DR: In this paper, a multimer structure of a specific xanthene derivative which is capable of providing a printed matter having further improved in performances concerning image fastness such as ozone resistance, light fastness and the like.
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a novel compound having a multimer structure of a specific xanthene derivative which is capable of providing a printed matter having further improved in performances concerning image fastness such as ozone resistance, light fastness and the like. A compound represented by formula (1): in formula (1), L represents a divalent to tetravalent linking group; D represents a residue obtained by removing 1 to 5 hydrogen atoms from a compound represented by formula (2); m represents an integer of 1 to 10, however, each L may be the same with or different from every other L; n represents an integer of 2 to 10, however, each D may be the same with or different from every other D; and in formula (2), each of R4 to R24 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, provided that formula (2) has at least one or more ionic hydrophilic groups.

TL;DR: Copper-catalyzed coupling reactions can be used for the high-yielding preparation of widely used oxazine and xanthene fluorophores from a common diaryl ether intermediate on a gram-scale to facilitate the future development of novel fluorophore and probes with unique properties.
Abstract: Common ground: copper-catalyzed coupling reactions can be used for the high-yielding preparation of widely used oxazine and xanthene fluorophores from a common diaryl ether intermediate on a gram-scale. This general approach may facilitate the future development of novel fluorophores and probes with unique properties.

TL;DR: In this paper, ZnO nanoparticles as a worthwhile and recyclable catalyst have been used for the one-pot synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-decahydroacridines and 1, 8 -dioxooctahydroid-xanthenes via multi-component reactions under solvent-free conditions.
Abstract: ZnO nanoparticles as a worthwhile and recyclable catalyst have been used for the one-pot synthesis of 1,8-dioxo-decahydroacridines and 1,8-dioxooctahydro-xanthenes via multi-component reactions under solvent-free conditions. The presented method is mild, environmentally friendly, inexpensive and highly effective to give the products in good to excellent yields.

TL;DR: In this article, a new type solar cell consisting of dye-redox system have been developed, where instead of single dye, mixture of two dyes along with a reducing agent, EDTA was taken in the illuminated compartment of an H-shaped cell in which I−/I2 redox couple in the dark compartment are separated by glass membrane (Porosity G-4).
Abstract: A new type solar cell consisting of dye-redox system have been developed. Instead of single dye, mixture of two dyes along with a reducing agent, EDTA was taken in the illuminated compartment of an H-shaped cell in which I−/I2 redox couple in the dark compartment are separated by glass membrane (Porosity G-4). The dyes used for mixed system are of four classes: phenazine, thiazine, xanthene and acridine. Calculated solar energy efficiency (SEE) and other cell characteristics of mixed dye-solar cell is larger in comparison to the cell with single dye.
