Abstract: Five new xanthone glycosides, comastomasides A-E (1-5), were isolated from aqueous ethanol extracts of the aerial portions of Comastoma pedunculatum. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis methods. Compounds 1-5 were evaluated for their hepatoprotective activity and cytotoxicity against four human cancer cell lines by in vitro assays. Among them, compounds 3 and 5 exhibited potent hepatoprotective activity. However, none of the compounds displayed cytotoxic activity.

Abstract: Mangosteen rind after investigation it turned out to contain several compounds with pharmacological activities such anti-aging. Anti-oxidants, prevent osteoporosis, antiviral, antidiabetic, antipyretics, antidepressants, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, treatment of heart disease, antibacterial, antifungal even for the treatment or therapy of HIV disease. Some of the main compound content of the mangosteen rind reportedly responsible for some of the pharmacological activity of a class of xanthones. Chemical Ingredients mangosteen rind is xanthones, which is a naturally occurring chemical substances classified as flavonoids. These compounds are commonly found in plants that are red, purple, blue, or yellow. Classification is oxygenated xanthones xanthones, xanthone glycoside, prenylanted xanthones, xanthonolignoid, and miscellaneous xanthones. Xanthone content of the most important being the Alpha-mangostin. Alpha-mangostin compounds suppress the formation of carcinogenic compounds with demonstrated anti-proliferative activity and apoptosis terpoten among other xanthone compounds. This compound is able to activate the apoptotic enzyme caspase-3 and - 9, but not in caspase-8. Alpha mangostin allegedly mediated mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. Anti-oksidan, mencegah osteoporosis, antivirus, antidiabetes, antipiretik, antidepresan, antiinflamasi, antihistamin, pengobatan penyakit jantung, antibakteri, antijamur bahkan untuk pengobatan atau terapi penyakit HIV. Beberapa senyawa utama kandungan kulit buah manggis yang dilaporkan bertanggung jawab atas beberapa aktivitas farmakologi adalah golongan xanton. Kandungan kimia kulit buah manggis adalah xanton, yang merupakan substansi kimia alami yang tergolong senyawa flavonoid. Senyawa ini umumnya ditemukan pada tumbuhan yang berwarna merah, ungu, biru, atau kuning. Klasifikasi xanton yaitu oxygenated xanthone, xanthone glycoside, prenylanted xanthone, xanthonolignoid, dan miscellaneous xanthone. Kandungan dalam xanton yang terpenting yaitu Alfa-mangostin. Senyawa Alfa-mangostin menekan pembentukan senyawa karsinogen dengan menunjukkan aktivitas anti-proliferasi dan apoptosis terpoten diantara senyawa xanton lainnya. Senyawa tersebut mampu mengaktivasi enzim apoptosis caspase-3 dan - 9, namun tidak pada caspase-8. Alfa-mangostin diduga kuat mem-perantarai apoptosis jalur mitokondria.
