TL;DR: A series of novel Mannich bases containing (monomethoxy-, dimethoxy- or trimethoxy)phenyl substituent and morpholine fragment have been synthesized via C-4-monoaminomethylation of α-mangostin, a natural hydroxyxanthone as mentioned in this paper .
Abstract: A series of novel Mannich bases containing (monomethoxy-, dimethoxy- or trimethoxy)phenyl substituent and morpholine fragment have been synthesized via C-4-monoaminomethylation of α-mangostin, a natural hydroxyxanthone. This modification has led to a considerable reduction in erythrotoxicity of natural xanthone while preserving its high antioxidant activity. All synthesized derivatives have demonstrated higher radical scavenging activity and total antioxidant activity compared to those of α-mangostin, several compounds have also shown higher efficacy in the test system with red blood cells. In the model of oxidative hemolysis of red blood cells induced by hydrogen peroxide and 2,2’-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride, a Mannich base containing 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl substituent has been shown to have the highest membrane-protective and antioxidant activity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a xanthone cowanine compound has been isolated from the steam bark of Garctnia cowa and the structure of this compound was determined base on spectroscopic data including uv, lR, J-D NMR, and these are compared with the literaturedata.
Abstract: The genus Garcinia is known to be a rich source of oxygenated xanthone, prenylated xanthone, and polyisoprenylated benzophenones. Some of them exhibiting various biological activities such as antimycrobachterial, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and antimalaria activities. Garcinia cowa belonging to the Guttiferaefamily, in Indonesia this plant is locally named asam kandis In our continuing phytochemical investigation of Garcinia plants is found in Indonesia a xanthone cowanine compound has been isolated from the steam bark of Garctnia cowa. The structure of this compound has been determined base on spectroscopic data including uv, lR,J-D NMR, and these are comparedwith the literaturedata. Keywords: Garcinia cowa, xanthone, cowanine

TL;DR: In this paper, an active oxygen eliminating agent containing 1, as active ingredient, a new exanthone compound extracted from Garcinia-subelliptica, excellent in lipoperoxide-inhibitory action, free radical-eliminating action and superoxide elimination.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an active oxygen eliminating agent containing, as active ingredient, a new exanthone compound extracted from Garcinia-subelliptica, excellent in lipoperoxide-inhibitory action, free radical-eliminating action and superoxide-eliminating action, thus useful for preventing/treating various diseases due to an excess of active oxygen CONSTITUTION: This active oxygen-eliminating agent contains, as active ingredient, 1,4,5-trihydroxyxanthone of formula I, or a xanthone compound of formula II, III or IV The above xanthone compound is obtained by grinding a dried material of Garcinia-subelliptica belonging to Hypericum plant and subjecting the resultant dry powder to extraction with an organic solvent such as methanol or ethanol followed by isolation by column chromatography using a carrier such as silica gel

TL;DR: In this paper, the hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of Garcinia eugenifolia indicated strong cytotoxicity towards the HL-60 cell line with IC 50 values of 19 µg/ml and 25 µg /ml respectively.
Abstract: Studies on the twigs of Garcinia eugenifolia have led to the isolation of one xanthone 5,9-dihydroxy-8-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-7-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)pyrano[3,2-b]xanthen-6(2H)-one (1) and one triterpenoid, sitosterol (2) Meanwhile, studies on the leaves of Garcinia eugenifolia provided another triterpenoid, friedelin (3) The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods such as 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectrometry (MS) and by comparison with previous studies The hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of Garcinia eugenifolia indicated strong cytotoxicity towards the HL-60 cell line with IC 50 values of 19 µg/ml and 25 µg/ml respectively However, the methanol extract gave moderate inhibitory activities (IC50<10 µg/ml) towards HL-60 cell line
