Abstract: A detailed chemical investigation of the secondary metabolites from the extract of the stem bark of Garcinia ovalifolia led to the isolation of one new prenylated xanthone named banfoxanthone and five known compounds, namely friedeline, canophyllal, ovalifoloneA, 3-methoxycheffouxanthone, endodesmiadol. Prenylated xanthones isolated from Garcinia ovalifolia and others species of genus Garcinia appear to be useful as chemotaxonomic markers in Garcinia.

Abstract: Bis-(4-nitrophenyl) methane and derivatives can be oxidized to the corresponding ketones by refluxing with Cu powder in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). Further reaction of the 2,2′-diiodoketone, under the same conditions, leads to the title xanthone.

Abstract: The invention discloses medicine application of a xanthone compound C. The xanthone compound C has the chemical structure as shown in formula 1, and has the chemical name of doitunggarcinone L. The medicine application means taking the xanthone compound C or at least one of an aquo-complex, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, a tautomer, a stereisomer and a precursor compound of the xanthone compound C as an active ingredient for preparing an anti-tumor medicine. Experiments show that the xanthone compound C doitunggarcinone L can remarkably inhibit proliferation of a human prostate cancer cell PC-3, a human cervical carcinoma cell, a human non-small cell lung cancer cell A549 and a human colon cancer cell HT-29, has the function of inhibiting proliferation of tumor cells, is expected to serve as an active ingredient for preparing the anti-tumor medicine and has a medicinal prospect.

Abstract: In this study, the crude, defatted extracts and the pure isolated xanthone (1,8-dihydroxy-2,5-dimethoxyxanthone) were screened in vitro for cytotoxicity activities, the xanthone was isolated from the defatted fraction of the aqueous methanolic stem-bark extract. The cytotoxic activity was evaluated using the brine shrimp lethality test of stem bark extract and the isolated compound, 1,8-dihydroxy-2,5-dimethoxyxanthone gave LC50 values less than 200 μg/mL, indicating a high pharmacological potential and could serve as anticancer agent.
