Role of antibiotics for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease
TL;DR: Most trials did not show a benefit for the treatment of active ulcerative colitis with antibiotics, though 2 meta-analyses concluded that antibiotic therapy is associated with a modest improvement in clinical symptoms, though more studies are needed to define the exact role of antibiotics in inflammatory bowel diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Full genome viral sequences inform patterns of SARS-CoV-2 spread into and within Israel.
Danielle Miller,Michael A. Martin,Noam Harel,Omer Tirosh,Talia Kustin,Moran Meir,Nadav Sorek,Shiraz Gefen-Halevi,Sharon Amit,Olesya Vorontsov,Avraham Shaag,Dana G. Wolf,Avi Peretz,Yonat Shemer-Avni,Diana Roif-Kaminsky,Naama M. Kopelman,Amit Huppert,Amit Huppert,Katia Koelle,Adi Stern +19 more
TL;DR: This work sequences 212 SARS-CoV-2 sequences and uses them to perform a comprehensive analysis to trace the origins and spread of the virus and finds that travelers returning from the United States of America significantly contributed to viral spread in Israel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progesterone Increases Bifidobacterium Relative Abundance during Late Pregnancy
Meital Nuriel-Ohayon,Hadar Neuman,Oren Ziv,Anna Belogolovski,Yiftah Barsheshet,Naamah Bloch,Atara Uzan,Roey Lahav,Avi Peretz,S. Frishman,Moshe Hod,Eran Hadar,Yoram Louzoun,Orly Avni,Omry Koren +14 more
TL;DR: A dramatic shift in the gut microbial composition of women and mice during late pregnancy is demonstrated, including an increase in the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium.

TL;DR: The findings underscore the ability of this virus to efficiently transmit between and within countries, as well as demonstrate the effectiveness of social distancing measures for reducing its spread.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection and characterization of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in wounded Syrian patients admitted to hospitals in northern Israel.
A Lerner,E Solter,E Solter,E Rachi,E Rachi,Amos Adler,Amos Adler,Hagai Rechnitzer,D Miron,L Krupnick,S Sela,E Aga,Y Ziv,Avi Peretz,K Labay,G Rahav,Yuval Geffen,Yuval Geffen,Khetam Hussein,Khetam Hussein,Orna Eluk,Orna Eluk,Yehuda Carmeli,Yehuda Carmeli,Mitchell J. Schwaber,Mitchell J. Schwaber +25 more
TL;DR: CPE containing blaNDM and blaOXA-48 were prevalent among Syrian wounded hospitalized patients in northern Israel and the finding of the same sequence type among patients at different medical centers implies a common, prehospital source for these patients.
