Journal ArticleDOI
Full genome viral sequences inform patterns of SARS-CoV-2 spread into and within Israel.
Danielle Miller,Michael A. Martin,Noam Harel,Omer Tirosh,Talia Kustin,Moran Meir,Nadav Sorek,Shiraz Gefen-Halevi,Sharon Amit,Olesya Vorontsov,Avraham Shaag,Dana G. Wolf,Avi Peretz,Yonat Shemer-Avni,Diana Roif-Kaminsky,Naama M. Kopelman,Amit Huppert,Amit Huppert,Katia Koelle,Adi Stern +19 more
TL;DR: This work sequences 212 SARS-CoV-2 sequences and uses them to perform a comprehensive analysis to trace the origins and spread of the virus and finds that travelers returning from the United States of America significantly contributed to viral spread in Israel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zika Virus Infects Early- and Midgestation Human Maternal Decidual Tissues, Inducing Distinct Innate Tissue Responses in the Maternal-Fetal Interface.
Yiska Weisblum,Esther Oiknine-Djian,Olesya Vorontsov,Ronit Haimov-Kochman,Zichria Zakay-Rones,Karen Meir,David Shveiky,Sharona Elgavish,Yuval Nevo,Moshe Roseman,Michal Bronstein,David Stockheim,Ido From,Iris Eisenberg,Aya A Lewkowicz,Simcha Yagel,Amos Panet,Dana G. Wolf +17 more
TL;DR: The studies of ZIKV infection in the authentic tissues of the human maternal-fetal interface unveil a route of transmission whereby virus originating from the mother could reach the fetal compartment via efficient replication within the maternal decidual aspect of the placenta, coinhabited by maternal and fetal cells.

Full genome viral sequences inform patterns of SARS-CoV-2 spread into and within Israel
Danielle Miller,Michael A. Martin,Noam Harel,Talia Kustin,Omer Tirosh,Moran Meir,Nadav Sorek,Shiraz Gefen-Halevi,Sharon Amit,Olesya Vorontsov,Dana G. Wolf,Avi Peretz,Yonat Shemer-Avni,Diana Roif-Kaminsky,Naama M. Kopelman,Amit Huppert,Amit Huppert,Katia Koelle,Adi Stern +18 more
TL;DR: The findings underscore the ability of this virus to efficiently transmit between and within countries, as well as demonstrate the effectiveness of social distancing measures for reducing its spread.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human nasal and lung tissues infected ex vivo with SARS-CoV-2 provide insights into differential tissue-specific and virus-specific innate immune responses in the upper and lower respiratory tract.
Or Alfi,Arkadi Yakirevitch,Arkadi Yakirevitch,Ori Wald,Ori Wandel,Uzi Izhar,Esther Oiknine-Djian,Yuval Nevo,Sharona Elgavish,Elad Dagan,Elad Dagan,Ory Madgar,Ory Madgar,Gilad Feinmesser,Gilad Feinmesser,Eli Pikarsky,Michal Bronstein,Olesya Vorontsov,Wayne B. Jonas,John A. Ives,Joan A.G. Walter,Zichria Zakay-Rones,Menachem Oberbaum,Amos Panet,Dana G. Wolf +24 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the early stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection at the mucosal entry site have remained unexplored, while the imbalanced innate immune response of end stage coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been extensively studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Timing of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination during the third trimester of pregnancy and transplacental antibody transfer: a prospective cohort study.
Amihai Rottenstreich,s4wjnft402,Gila Zarbiv,Esther Oiknine-Djian,Olesya Vorontsov,Roy Zigron,Geffen Kleinstern,Dana G. Wolf,Shay Porat +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of early versus late third-trimester maternal severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccination on transplacental transfer and neonatal levels of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was assessed.
