Mode choice, substitution patterns and environmental impacts of shared and personal micro-mobility

This study examines the reaction of stock returns to acquisition news. A data of 51 observations of acquiring companies with publicly traded shares on the London Stock Exchange (FTSE100) is used over a period, from July 2012 to May 2013 with an estimation period [-100, -10] and test period [-5, +5]. The market model is applied here in order to predict future stock returns and the use of the simple regression to get the parameters of the regression equation. With this a test statistics obtained on average, is significantly positive and greater than the critical value. Therefore, the event of acquisition does appear to be related significantly to the abnormal returns and the null hypothesis being rejected.

Event Study on the Reaction of Stock Returns to Acquisition News

We use the event study method to examine the merger and acquisition announcement effects on the stock returns of the sample of 14 acquiring banks from India and the United States (US). The study concludes that although different markets react differently, such news does impact the stock price reaction by generating some abnormal returns around the announcement date. Since the cumulative average abnormal returns (CAARs) on most of the days in the event window period, as well as the post-event-window period, are significant for the shares of the Indian acquiring banks, the Indian market, an emerging market is more sensitive to such information as compared to the US market, a developed one.

In recent years, mobility as a service (MaaS) (i.e., a system combining public transport, shared rides, short-term vehicle rentals, and taxis sourced via mobile applications) has become a solution that is increasingly available in smart cities. Along with the development of transport options, the range of vehicles offered as part of this type of service has expanded widely, from buses, taxis, bicycles, and cars to the innovation of electric scooters. The universality of MaaS services has led to a change in communication behavior and, at the same time, to a rapid increase in the number of people using the proposed solutions. Due to this increase, several researchers devoted their dissertations to issues of the management or optimization of websites; however, they ignored the many technical and health aspects. Recognizing a scientific niche area, the research conducted has been devoted to assessing the impact of the vibrations generated by electric scooters upon the user. Research on the vehicles used in MaaS systems has been conducted to learn and analyze the selected design solutions and their impact on the user who utilizes them. The scope of the research included vibroacoustic research and the mathematical modeling of the studied phenomena.

Impact of the Use of Electric Scooters from Shared Mobility Systems on the Users

Abstract Micromobility, such as electric scooters and electric bikes—an estimated US$300 billion global market by 2030—will accelerate electrification efforts and fundamentally change urban mobility patterns. However, the impacts of micromobility adoption on traffic congestion and sustainability remain unclear. Here we leverage advances in mobile geofencing and high-resolution data to study the effects of a policy intervention, which unexpectedly banned the use of scooters during evening hours with remote shutdown, guaranteeing near perfect compliance. We test theories of habit discontinuity to provide statistical identification for whether micromobility users substitute scooters for cars. Evidence from a natural experiment in a major US city shows increases in travel time of 9–11% for daily commuting and 37% for large events. Given the growing popularity of restrictions on the use of micromobility devices globally, cities should expect to see trade-offs between micromobility restrictions designed to promote public safety and increased emissions associated with heightened congestion.

What travel modes do shared e-scooters displace? A review of recent research findings

This research work empirically investigates the differences in stock price reaction of target and acquiring companies due to merger announcements. The role of insider information before merger announcements is also empirically tested and explained to be the cause for observed pre-announcement price run-ups. The investigation has been carried out using traditional event study methodology. Various event windows have been considered and compared to find out the period where the price run-up initiates. The post-merger price variations have also been studied. This analysis is suggestive of an upward trend in cumulative abnormal returns for companies in the pre-announcement period which in turn is indicative of insider information or anticipation. In addition, the evidence also suggests that around the announcement period the returns for the acquiring companies are higher than those for the target companies. In the post amalgamation period there is a downward trend in the cumulative returns implying a negative result of the merger.
