Reliable access to electricity is still a challenge in many developing countries. Indeed, rural areas in sub-Saharan Africa and developing countries such as India still encounter frequent power outages. Local energy markets (LEMs) have emerged as a low-cost solution enabling prosumers with power supply systems such as solar PV to sell their surplus of energy to other members of the local community. This paper proposes a one-to-one automated negotiation framework for peer-to-peer (P2P) local trading of electricity. Our framework uses an autonomous agent model to capture the preferences of both an electricity seller (consumer) and buyer (small local generator or prosumer), in terms of price and electricity quantities to be traded in different periods throughout a day. We develop a bilateral negotiation framework based on the well-known Rubinstein alternating offers protocol, in which the quantity of electricity and the price for different periods are aggregated into daily packages and negotiated between the buyer and seller agent. The framework is then implemented experimentally, with buyers and sellers adopting different negotiation strategies based on negotiation concession algorithms, such as linear heuristic or Boulware. Results show that this framework and agents modelling allow prosumers to increase their revenue while providing electricity access to the community at low cost.

Automated Negotiation for Peer-to-Peer Electricity Trading in Local Energy Markets

BACKGROUND: Noise pollution has become a major environmental problem leading to nuisances and health issues.
AIM: This paper aims to study and analyse the noise pollution levels in major areas in Ota metropolis. A probability model which is capable of predicting the noise pollution level is also determined.
METHODS: Datasets on the noise pollution level in 41 locations across Ota metropolis were used in this research. The datasets were collected thrice per day; morning, afternoon and evening. Descriptive statistics were performed, and analysis of variance was also conducted using Minitab version 17.0 software. Easy fit software was however used to select the appropriate probability model that would best describe the dataset.
RESULTS: The noise levels are way far from the WHO recommendations. Also, there is no significant difference in the effects of the noise pollution level for all the times of the day considered. The log-logistic distribution provides the best fit to the dataset based on the Kolmogorov Smirnov goodness of fit test.
CONCLUSION: The fitted probability model can help in the prediction of noise pollution and act as a yardstick in the reduction of noise pollution, thereby improving the public health of the populace.

A Study of Noise Pollution Measurements and Possible Effects on Public Health in Ota Metropolis, Nigeria.

This paper reports a scientific-assessment of the exposure-levels of aircraft noisehazards
suffered by persons living/working within the neighbourhoods of four Airports [Ibadan,
Benin-City, Warri and Owerri] in Nigeria Physical measurements of selected aircraft and
environmental noise parameters [Ambient Noise Level ( ANL ), Sound Pressure Level ( SPL ),
Aircraft Take-off Noise-level ( ATNL ) and Aircraft Landing Noise-level ( ALNL )]; were
carried-out using the integrated CR811C Noise meter, during one hundred and twenty (120)
periodic noise sampling-surveys; performed [from January to December 2017] at thirty (30)
randomly-selected study-locations, within the vicinity of each of these four(4) airports in
accordance with the Method/Standard-procedures specified by the International Standards
Organisation’s (ISO) relevant standards—ISO 3891, ISO 1996-1 and ISO 1996-2 The results
showed that: while SPL ranged from 103-115 dB( A) , ANL ranged from 523 – 641
dB( A) , the ATNL ranged from 696 – 877 dB( A) , and ALNL ranged from 662 – 827
dB( A)  Actually, these results are alarming, since they significantly exceed the WHO Standard
Recommended Maximum Noise-levels of: 35 dB( A) [Indoor], 55 dB( A) [Outdoor] to
prevent Speech-intelligibility, Noise-annoyance & Sleep-disturbance; and 90 dB( A) [being the
Permissible Noise level/limit for 8hour daytime safe human exposure] These and the results of
the Statistical analysis (Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test) carried-out, clearly prove the existence of a
generally ignored, but yet dangerous problem of continuous human-exposure to excessively highlevels
of Aircraft noise-hazards to which residents of Airports’ neighborhoods are subjected
