Feed evaluation for ruminants. I. The systems in use from May 1977-onwards in The Netherlands

TL;DR: A description is given of the new energetic feeding systems for dairy and beef cattle in The Netherlands that are sufficiently flexible to adapt to new information, for which there is an urgent need with regard to some details.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feed evaluation for dairy cows

TL;DR: It is concluded that the available information of balance trials with dairy cows by far exceeds the information of similar trials with fattening steers on which the starch equivalent system of feed evaluation for dairy cows is based and that a system derived frombalance trials with lactating cows is to be preferred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feed evaluation for dairy cows: Tests on the system proposed in the Netherlands

TL;DR: The validity of the new Dutch feed evaluation system for dairy cattle was tested by using the results of energy balance experiments in Wageningen and of Scandinavian feeding trials performed by Frederiksen and Dijkstra to predict the metabolizable energy in the ration and the net energy to be produced.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feed evaluation for ruminants : New energy systems in the Netherlands, France and Switzerland general introduction

TL;DR: The main lines of the new systems of energetic feed evaluation of the three countries agree closely but with regard to some details they differ slightly; they are said to have sufficient flexibility to take in new information for further improvement.
