Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial community dynamics and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon degradation during bioremediation of heavily creosote-contaminated soil.
TL;DR: This study shows that specific bacterial phylotypes are associated both with different phases of PAH degradation and with nutrient addition in a preadapted PAH-contaminated soil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of a novel metabolite in the degradation of pyrene by Mycobacterium sp. strain AP1: actions of the isolate on two- and three-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
TL;DR: The catabolic versatility of strain AP1 and its use ofortho cleavage mechanisms during the degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) give new insight into the role that pyrene-degrading bacterial strains may play in the environmental fate of PAH mixtures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced biodegradation of Casablanca crude oil by a microbial consortium in presence of a rhamnolipid produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa AT10.
TL;DR: The characterization of the rhamnolipids produced by strain AT10 showed the effectiveness of emulsification of complex mixtures and the enhancement of biosurfactant addition was more noticeable in the case of the group of isoprenoids from the aliphatic fraction and the alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from the aromatic fraction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioassay-Directed Chemical Analysis of Genotoxic Components in Coastal Sediments
TL;DR: Organic extracts of coastal sediments collected off-shore from Barcelona were submitted to a three-level bioassay-directed chemical fractionation, including gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and normal- phase (NP) and reversed-phase (RP) liquid Chromatography (LC).
Journal ArticleDOI
Laboratory-scale bioremediation experiments on hydrocarbon-contaminated soils
TL;DR: A simple protocol for biotreatability assays in two phases is proposed, which indicates whether a biological treatment of contaminated soil is appropriate and attempted to identify the most appropriate treatment through the evaluation of various conditions and additives.
