Journal ArticleDOI
Optimal placement of sensors for structural system identification and health monitoring using a hybrid swarm intelligence technique
TL;DR: Numerical studies indicate that the proposed hybrid PSO algorithm generates sensor configurations superior to the conventional iterative information-based approaches which have been popularly used for large structures.
Journal ArticleDOI
A scatter search algorithm for stacking sequence optimisation of laminate composites
A. Rama Mohan Rao,N. Arvind +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the metaheuristic approach called scatter search for lay-up sequence optimisation of laminate composite panels, which is an evolutionary method that has been found to be promising for solving combinatorial optimisation problems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of delamination in laminated composites with limited measurements combining PCA and dynamic QPSO
TL;DR: Studies carried out and presented in this paper clearly indicate that the proposed SHM scheme can robustly identify the instant of damage, spatial location, the extent of delamination and matrix cracking even with limited sensor measurements and also with noisy data.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Meta-Heuristic Algorithm for Multi-Objective Optimal Design of Hybrid Laminate Composite Structures
A. Rama Mohan Rao,P. P. Shyju +1 more
TL;DR: The standard performance metrics for evaluating multi‐objective optimization algorithms are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm over other popular evolutionary algorithms like Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms (NSGA‐II), Pareto Archived Evolutionary Strategy (PAES), micro‐GA, and Multi‐Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO).
Journal ArticleDOI
Singular spectrum analysis combined with ARMAX model for structural damage detection
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented an approach to enhance the sensitivity of the damage features by augmenting Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) to ARMAX model, enabling it to locate the smaller damage like cracks.
