Data Mining - Concepts and Techniques.

The objective of this paper is to give a comprehensive introduction to applied cryptography with an engineer or computer scientist in mind. The emphasis is on the knowledge needed to create practical systems which supports integrity, confidentiality, or authenticity. Topics covered includes an introduction to the concepts in cryptography, attacks against cryptographic systems, key use and handling, random bit generation, encryption modes, and message authentication codes. Recommendations on algorithms and further reading is given in the end of the paper. This paper should make the reader able to build, understand and evaluate system descriptions and designs based on the cryptographic components described in the paper.

Cloud Computing and Inter-Clouds – Types, Topologies and Research Issues

Clustering techniques are widely used in Web Usage Mining to capture similar interests and trends among users accessing a Web site. For this purpose, web access logs generated at a particular web site are preprocessed to discover the user navigational sessions. Clustering techniques are then applied to group the user session data into user session clusters, where intercluster similarities are minimized while the intra cluster similarities are maximized. Since the application of different clustering algorithms generally results in different sets of cluster formation, it is important to evaluate the performance of these methods in terms of accuracy and validity of the clusters, and also the time required to generate them, using appropriate performance measures. This paper describes various validity and accuracy measures including Dunn's Index, Davies Bouldin Index, C Index, Rand Index, Jaccard Index, Silhouette Index, Fowlkes Mallows and Sum of the Squared Error (SSE). We conducted the performance evaluation of the following clustering techniques: k-Means, k-Medoids, Leader, Single Link Agglomerative Hierarchical and DBSCAN. These techniques are implemented and tested against the Web user navigational data. Finally their performance results are presented and compared.

Quantitative Evaluation of Performance and Validity Indices for Clustering the Web Navigational Sessions

Biometrics is the science and technology of measuring and analyzing biological data of human body, extracting a feature set from the acquired data, and comparing this set against to the template set in the database. The increasing demand of enhanced security systems has led to an unprecedented interest in biometric based person authentication system. Biometric systems based on single source of information are called Unimodal systems. Although some Unimodal systems have got considerable improvement in reliability and accuracy, they often suffer from enrollment problems due to non-universal biometrics traits, susceptibility to biometric spoofing or insufficient accuracy caused by noisy data. Hence, single biometric may not be able to achieve the desired performance requirement in real world applications. One of the methods to overcome these problems is to make use of multimodal biometric authentication systems, which combine information from multiple modalities to arrive at a decision. Multimodal biometric systems are those which utilize, or capability of utilizing, more than one physiological or behavioral characteristic for enrollment, verification, or identification. Studies have demonstrated that multimodal biometric systems can achieve better performance compared with Unimodal systems. We discuss here different multimodal sources, multimodal architectures & different fusion techniques used in multimodal biometric systems.

In this paper, we present a survey of various approaches for identification of Named Entities (NE) in Indian Languages. First we present various approaches used to recognize NE in Indian languages . Next we critically describe the observations and research related to NER. In the language of English it is observed capitalization is a major clue to identify NEs. Indian languages are resource poor languages and gazetteers available are insufficient. Indian languages are agglutinative in nature the reason being more number of inflectional words.

In public key encryption there is always a possibility of some information being leaked out. Because a cryptoanalyst can always encrypt random messages with a public key, he can get some information. Not a whole of information is to be gained here, but there are potential problems with allowing a crypto analyst to encrypt random messages with public key. Some information is leaked out every time to the crypto analyst, he encrypts a message. With probabilistic encryption algorithms, a crypto analyst can no longer encrypt random plain texts looking for correct cipher text. Since multiple cipher texts will be developed for one plain text, even if he decrypts the message to plain text, he does not know how far he had guessed the message correctly.
