New hybrid multi criteria decision making method for offshore windfarm site location in Persian Gulf, Iran

The concepts of vulnerability and resilience are gaining popularity in the development literature but still lack conceptual integration with the theory and practices of livelihood dynamics. However, the livelihood system of a community is a key element of the social system which may frequently be disrupted by the ecological, financial, natural and human-made vulnerability. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of vulnerability and resilience in the perspective of livelihoods in a climate vulnerable context. It also addresses the methodological gaps through translation of theory from existing literature. This study argues that vulnerability and livelihood resilience are inversely related. It recommends some indicators and pillars for a better understanding of the vulnerability and livelihood resilience drawing from assorted literature through analysing the concept from various dimensions. The study will be helpful in understanding the livelihood dynamics and its assessment in the perspective of vulnerability and resilience.

Blockchain Technology (BCT) is expanding day by day and is used in all pillars of life and projects. In this research, we survey applicable BCT in project management for the first time. We presented a Resource-Constrained Time–Cost-Quality-Energy-Environment Tradeoff Problem by considering BCT, Risk and Robustness (RCTCQEETPBCTRR) in project scheduling. We utilize hybrid robust stochastic programming, worst case, and Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) to cope with uncertainty and risks. This type of robustification and risk-averse is presented in this research. A real case study is presented in a healthcare project. We utilize GAMS-CPLEX to solve the model. Finally, we analyze finish time, conservative coefficient, the confidence level of CVaR, and the number of scenarios. The most important research result is that applying BCT decreases cost, energy, and pollution and increases quality. Moreover, the total gap between RCTCQEETPBCTRR and without BCT is approximately 2.6%. When compacting finish time happens or if the conservative coefficient increases to 100%, costs, energy, and pollution environment increase, but quality decreases. If the confidence level of CVaR increases, the cost, energy, and environment function functions grow up, and quality is approximately not changed.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a versatile crop that plays a vital role in sustaining smallholders’ livelihoods, and in increasing farmers’ income. This research assessed the cassava value chain in Dak Lak province, Vietnam. It demonstrated the need for enhanced efficiency in the production of cassava thus enhancing the cassava value chain. Value chain analysis was conducted through a questionnaire-based survey of 300 household farmers, in-depth interviews with key informants, and focus group discussions in seven communes in three districts. The aim was to explore how to improve and develop the value chain, increase stakeholders’ incomes and particularly, to ensure sustainable household livelihoods. The findings relating to the sharing of value added among the stakeholders showed that farmers create the highest value added but that intermediaries derive the most profit. In addition, relationships exist amongst different stakeholder ranging from input providers to the final users which are overwhelmingly starch and ethanol factories. There is a local linkage between input suppliers and farmers, both spot-market and persistent relationships which exist between farmers and intermediaries. Furthermore, the distribution of both gross and net profits overwhelmingly favors the traders and processors. However, intermediaries play an important role and the farmers would not secure full benefits without their support.

Advancing smallholders’ sustainable livelihood through linkages among stakeholders in the cassava (manihot esculenta crantz) value chain: the case of dak lak province, vietnam

In Vietnam, most protected areas are guarded and their natural resources are conserved by forest rangers, who carry out their law enforcement duties from forest stations. Previous research projects have been undertaken on law enforcement performance during traditional patrolling in most protected areas; however, insights into patrolling efforts at the local level, as a part of protection activities, have been significantly missing. The aim of this paper was to compare the law enforcement performance of rangers at two forest stations in the Pu Hu Nature Reserve (NR). These forest rangers face different challenges and illegal activities, depending on local conditions, which means that their law enforcement activities can vary widely. The results provided initial insights into the different variables of law enforcement performance and illegal encounters at the local level. The number of illegal encounters and distance walked were not significantly different between the two forest stations, unlike other variables, such as relative altitude, walking speed, and patrol hours. The ratios of illegal encounters to relative altitude and to speed at the Nam Tien Forest Station were higher than the equivalent findings at the Trung Thanh Forest Station due to differences in terms of the patrolling hours and distance walked between the two forest stations. Action to improve conservation is essentially a matter of implementing conservation planning in parallel with the current situation. Undoubtedly, the successful management of forests by stations in a protected area will be indicated by a positive law enforcement performance.
