Diabetes is a dreadful disease identified by escalated levels of glucose in the blood Machine learning algorithms help in identification and prediction of diabetes at an early stage The main objective of this study is to predict diabetes mellitus with better accuracy using an ensemble of machine learning algorithms The Pima Indians Diabetes dataset has been considered for experimentation, which gathers details of patients with and without having diabetes The proposed ensemble soft voting classifier gives binary classification and uses the ensemble of three machine learning algorithms viz random forest, logistic regression, and Naive Bayes for the classification Empirical evaluation of the proposed methodology has been conducted with state-of-the-art methodologies and base classifiers such as AdaBoost, Logistic Regression,Support Vector machine, Random forest, Naive Bayes, Bagging, GradientBoost, XGBoost, CatBoost by taking accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score as the evaluation criteria The proposed ensemble approach gives the highest accuracy, precision, recall, and F1_score value with 7904%, 7348%, 7145% and 806% respectively on the PIMA diabetes dataset Further, the efficiency of the proposed methodology has also been compared and analysed with breast cancer dataset The proposed ensemble soft voting classifier has given 9702% accuracy on the breast cancer dataset

An ensemble approach for classification and prediction of diabetes mellitus using soft voting classifier

Diabetes is a long-lasting disease triggered by expanded sugar levels in human blood and can affect various organs if left untreated. It contributes to heart disease, kidney issues, damaged nerves, damaged blood vessels, and blindness. Timely disease prediction can save precious lives and enable healthcare advisors to take care of the conditions. Most diabetic patients know little about the risk factors they face before diagnosis. Nowadays, hospitals deploy basic information systems, which generate vast amounts of data that cannot be converted into proper/useful information and cannot be used to support decision making for clinical purposes. There are different automated techniques available for the earlier prediction of disease. Ensemble learning is a data analysis technique that combines multiple techniques into a single optimal predictive system to evaluate bias and variation, and to improve predictions. Diabetes data, which included 17 variables, were gathered from the UCI repository of various datasets. The predictive models used in this study include AdaBoost, Bagging, and Random Forest, to compare the precision, recall, classification accuracy, and F1-score. Finally, the Random Forest Ensemble Method had the best accuracy (97%), whereas the AdaBoost and Bagging algorithms had lower accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores.

An Ensemble Approach to Predict Early-Stage Diabetes Risk Using Machine Learning: An Empirical Study

Pulmonary nodule is one of the lung diseases and its early diagnosis and treatment are essential to cure the patient. This paper introduces a deep learning framework to support the automated detection of lung nodules in computed tomography (CT) images. The proposed framework employs VGG-SegNet supported nodule mining and pre-trained DL-based classification to support automated lung nodule detection. The classification of lung CT images is implemented using the attained deep features, and then these features are serially concatenated with the handcrafted features, such as the Grey Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Local-Binary-Pattern (LBP) and Pyramid Histogram of Oriented Gradients (PHOG) to enhance the disease detection accuracy. The images used for experiments are collected from the LIDC-IDRI and Lung-PET-CT-Dx datasets. The experimental results attained show that the VGG19 architecture with concatenated deep and handcrafted features can achieve an accuracy of 97.83% with the SVM-RBF classifier.

The advancement of precision medicine in medical care has led behind the conventional symptom-driven treatment process by allowing early risk prediction of disease through improved diagnostics and customization of more effective treatments. It is necessary to scrutinize overall patient data alongside broad factors to observe and differentiate between ill and relatively healthy people to take the most appropriate path toward precision medicine, resulting in an improved vision of biological indicators that can signal health changes. Precision and genomic medicine combined with artificial intelligence have the potential to improve patient healthcare. Patients with less common therapeutic responses or unique healthcare demands are using genomic medicine technologies. AI provides insights through advanced computation and inference, enabling the system to reason and learn while enhancing physician decision making. Many cell characteristics, including gene up-regulation, proteins binding to nucleic acids, and splicing, can be measured at high throughput and used as training objectives for predictive models. Researchers can create a new era of effective genomic medicine with the improved availability of a broad range of datasets and modern computer techniques such as machine learning. This review article has elucidated the contributions of ML algorithms in precision and genome medicine.

Intervertebral disc instance segmentation using a multistage optimization mask-RCNN (MOM-RCNN)

Leukocytes, produced in the bone marrow, make up around one percent of all blood cells. Uncontrolled growth of these white blood cells leads to the birth of blood cancer. Out of the three different types of cancers, the proposed study provides a robust mechanism for the classification of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Multiple Myeloma (MM) using the SN-AM dataset. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer where the bone marrow forms too many lymphocytes. On the other hand, Multiple myeloma (MM), a different kind of cancer, causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow rather than releasing them into the bloodstream. Therefore, they crowd out and prevent the production of healthy blood cells. Conventionally, the process was carried out manually by a skilled professional in a considerable amount of time. The proposed model eradicates the probability of errors in the manual process by employing deep learning techniques, namely convolutional neural networks. The model, trained on cells’ images, first pre-processes the images and extracts the best features. This is followed by training the model with the optimized Dense Convolutional neural network framework (termed DCNN here) and finally predicting the type of cancer present in the cells. The model was able to reproduce all the measurements correctly while it recollected the samples exactly 94 times out of 100. The overall accuracy was recorded to be 97.2%, which is better than the conventional machine learning methods like Support Vector Machine (SVMs), Decision Trees, Random Forests, Naive Bayes, etc. This study indicates that the DCNN model’s performance is close to that of the established CNN architectures with far fewer parameters and computation time tested on the retrieved dataset. Thus, the model can be used effectively as a tool for determining the type of cancer in the bone marrow.
