Drought risk assessment using remote sensing and GIS techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of fundamental concepts of drought, classification of droughts, drought indices, and the role of remote sensing and geographic information systems for drought evaluation is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of land degradation east of the Nile Delta, Egypt using remote sensing and GIS techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, the main causative factors of human induced land degradation types are; over irrigation, human intervention in natural drainage, improper time use of heavy machinery and the absence of conservation measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sustainability indicators for agricultural land use based on GIS spatial modeling in North of Sinai-Egypt

TL;DR: In this paper, a sustainable agricultural spatial model (SASM) was developed using Arc GIS 10 to identify and classify the area, according to sustainability degree of agricultural utilization, where the factors of productivity, security, protection, economic viability, and social acceptability in the different mapping units were assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of land-use changes and site variables on surface soil organic carbon pool at Mediterranean Region

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between soil organic carbon pool (SOCP) under different soil types and land-use changes in the Mediterranean region and found that land use changes have a marked impact on surface SOCP and C sequestration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retrieving leaf area index from SPOT4 satellite data

TL;DR: In this article, a research project was conducted as collaboration between the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) in Egypt and the Institute of Remote Applications (IRSA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, to generate normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) -leaf area index (LAI) statistical inversion models for three rice varieties planted in Egypt (Giza-178, Sakha-102, and Sakha -104) using the data of two rice growing seasons.
