Resin transfer molding (RTM) technologies are widely used in automotive, marine, and aerospace applications. The need to evaluate the impact of design and production critical choices, also in terms of final costs, leads to the wider use of numerical simulation in the preliminary phase of component development. The main issue for accurate RTM analysis is the reliable characterization of the involved materials. The aim of this paper is to present a validated methodology for material characterization to be implemented and introduce data elaboration in the ESI PAM-RTM software. Experimental campaigns for reinforcement permeabilities and resin viscosity measurement are presented and discussed. Finally, the obtained data are implemented in the software and then compared to experimental results in order to validate the described methodology.

Material Characterization for Reliable Resin Transfer Molding Process Simulation

: The purpose of this study is to examine how problem-based learning (PBL) is adapted in an online teaching medium using Microsoft Teams and then utilized in Aviation English classrooms at a Malaysian aviation-based technical institution with the purpose of testing for any discernible effect. Using Microsoft Teams, lecturers guided ﬁnal-year Aircraft Maintenance undergraduates into self-directed study and peer instruction for ﬁve consecutive weeks. A study was performed to determine the inﬂuence of online PBL instruction on learners’ exam results. The paired sign test was used to analyze the non-normal data in SPSS—the mixed results showed that additional studies should be carried out for additional areas of study/curricula when pursuing PBL-Institute prestige in order to enhance the online PBL implementation processes and choose the most appropriate online PBL framework for each area of study.

Enhance Safety and Efficiency by Controlling and Managing the Slip and Lapse Made by Individuals

: The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the livelihood of many ever since its ﬁrst detection nearly a year ago. Up until now, almost every domain of societal norms has been drastically impacted—particularly education. Many people immediately opted for Internet-based apps and programs within their capabilities and ﬁnancial means to cope with the learning progress for themselves and the people around them. Learning institutions and teaching staffs worldwide quickly adopted these technologies and later adapted everything within online contexts. From there, extensive changes had been made to cope with the teaching/learning issues caused by the global pandemic. By utilizing an adapted questionnaire, this study discussed and evaluated the practicality of online assessments that had been implemented posthaste to assess an Aviation English course for aircraft maintenance undergraduates in ﬂipped classrooms. The discussion ﬁndings indicated that while there were certainly a number of issues that can be quickly improvised in the near future, the whole implementation was deﬁnitely a success—especially with the ongoing limitations experienced by both educators and students.

Practicality of Ad Hoc Online Assessments for Teaching ESP in Online Flipped Classrooms during COVID-19

With extended reality (XR) technology on the rise in aviation education, we evaluated the perceptions of Thai students on an inexpensive and classroom-friendly virtual reality (VR) system and software combination, as an introduction to flying an aircraft. In addition to cost-effectiveness, consumer grade technology also provides greater portability than traditional full-flight simulators. Third year aeronautical engineering and commercial pilot undergraduate program international students were exposed to a brief VR experience using a PlayStation 4 console (PS4) with PlayStation VR (PSVR) and Ultrawings software. Subsequently, in-depth qualitative interviews were analyzed via thematic coding. The student responses were mostly positive and enthusiastic, but also identified issues with hardware and software (screen door effect, limited peripheral vision, less than optimal interaction controls, and lack of haptic feedback). Using thematic coding, responses were categorized into; head mounted device, controls and controllers, plausibility illusion, place illusion, embodiment illusion, academic value and entertainment value. Following respondents’ positive responses on certain identified critical points, we recommend further study using other hardware and software combinations.

Developing a Virtual Reality (VR) App for Theory of Flight & Control as a Teaching & Learning Aid

This project investigates the closed compartment moulding design for pull-winding process. This is a continuation of an initial study that involved discovering how the permeability effect inside a close compartment in pull-winding processing. The mould has been designed to ensure resin penetration to the preform. The mould design has been divided into three parts for easy installation, maintenance and also cleaning after use. The mould has been tested on an actual production line at TenAsia Sdn. Bhd. The test is conducted by pulling mechanism where the machine pulls the preform winding forward when it is switched on. In this process, the resin is flowing through the hose and it has been sprayed out by the nozzle inside the mould to the preform. The test has been done using 2, 4 and 6 nozzles with various pressures to determine which one is the most suitable for penetration and covering up the preform. Based on the results, the most economical and productive design has been identified as spray type with 2 upper and lower nozzles running at an appropriate pressure of 20 psi. This pressure has been chosen based on the area covered on the preform surfaces and time taken to penetrate the preform layer. In conclusion, 20 psi pressure works better due to the resin’s deeper penetration in shorter time, less mist and very minimal excess resin.
