In recent years, emotion recognition based on facial expressions has received increasing attention by the scientific community in several knowledge domains, such as emotional analysis, pattern recognition, behavior prediction, interpersonal relations, human-computer interactions, among others. This work describes an emotion recognition system based on facial expressions robust to occlusions. Initially, the occluded facial expression to be recognized is reconstructed through Robust Principal Component Analysis (RPCA). Then, a fiducial point detection is performed to extract facial expression features, represented by Gabor wavelets and geometric features. The feature vector space is reduced using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). Finally, K-nearest neighbor algorithm (K-NN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers are used to recognize the expressions. Three public data sets are used to evaluate our results. The geometric representation achieved high accuracy rates for occluded and non-occluded faces compared to approaches available in the literature.

Facial Expression Recognition with Occlusions Based on Geometric Representation

Heart disease (HD) has surpassed all other causes of death in recent years. Estimating one’s risk of developing heart disease is difficult, since it takes both specialized knowledge and practical experience. The collection of sensor information for the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiac disease is a recent application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in healthcare organizations. Despite the efforts of many scientists, the diagnostic results for HD remain unreliable. To solve this problem, we offer an IoT platform that uses a Modified Self-Adaptive Bayesian algorithm (MSABA) to provide more precise assessments of HD. When the patient wears the smartwatch and pulse sensor device, it records vital signs, including electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure, and sends the data to a computer. The MSABA is used to determine whether the sensor data that has been obtained is normal or abnormal. To retrieve the features, the kernel discriminant analysis (KDA) is used. By contrasting the suggested MSABA with existing models, we can summarize the system’s efficacy. Findings like accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 measures show that the suggested MSABA-based prediction system outperforms competing approaches. The suggested method demonstrates that the MSABA achieves the highest rate of accuracy compared to the existing classifiers for the largest possible amount of data.

Modified Self-Adaptive Bayesian Algorithm for Smart Heart Disease Prediction in IoT System

Background: The advancement of information and communication technologies and the growing power of artificial intelligence are successfully transforming a number of concepts that are important to our daily lives. Many sectors, including education, healthcare, industry, and others, are benefiting greatly from the use of such resources. The healthcare sector, for example, was an early adopter of smart wearables, which primarily serve as diagnostic tools. In this context, smart wearables have demonstrated their effectiveness in detecting and predicting cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), the leading cause of death worldwide. Objective: In this study, a systematic literature review of smart wearable applications for cardiovascular disease detection and prediction is presented. After conducting the required search, the documents that met the criteria were analyzed to extract key criteria such as the publication year, vital signs recorded, diseases studied, hardware used, smart models used, datasets used, and performance metrics. Methods: This study followed the PRISMA guidelines by searching IEEE, PubMed, and Scopus for publications published between 2010 and 2022. Once records were located, they were reviewed to determine which ones should be included in the analysis. Finally, the analysis was completed, and the relevant data were included in the review along with the relevant articles. Results: As a result of the comprehensive search procedures, 87 papers were deemed relevant for further review. In addition, the results are discussed to evaluate the development and use of smart wearable devices for cardiovascular disease management, and the results demonstrate the high efficiency of such wearable devices. Conclusions: The results clearly show that interest in this topic has increased. Although the results show that smart wearables are quite accurate in detecting, predicting, and even treating cardiovascular disease, further research is needed to improve their use.

Smart Wearables for the Detection of Cardiovascular Diseases: A Systematic Literature Review

Facial point detection gains an increasing importance in computer vision as it plays a vital role in several applications such as facial expression recognition and human behavior analysis. In this work, we propose an approach to locate 49 facial points via neural networks in a cascade regression fashion. The localization process starts by detecting the face, followed by a face cropping refinement task and lastly arriving at the facial point location through five cascades of regressors. In particular, we perform a guided initialization using holistic features extracted from the entire face patch. Then, the points location is refined in the next four cascades using local features extracted from patches enclosing the prior estimates of the points. The generalization capability was improved by performing feature selection at each cascade. By evaluating our approach on samples gathered from four challenging databases, we achieved a location average error for each point ranging between 0.72 % and 1.57 % of the face width. The proposed approach was further evaluated according to the 300-w challenge, where we achieved competitive results to those obtained by state-of-the-art approaches and commercial software packages. Moreover, our approach showed better generalization capability. Finally, we validated the proposed enhancements by studying the impact of several factors on the point localization accuracy.

Facial point localization via neural networks in a cascade regression framework

At the beginning and end of each session, attendance is an important aspect of the daily classroom evaluation. When using traditional methods such as calling out roll calls or taking a student's signature, managing attendance can be a time-consuming task. The teacher normally checks it, although it's possible that a teacher will miss someone or some students' answers many times. Face recognition-based attendance system is a solution to the problem of recognizing faces for the purpose of collecting attendance by utilizing face recognition technology based on high-definition monitor video and other information technology. Instead of depending on time-consuming approaches, we present a real-time Face Recognition System for tracking student attendance in class in this work. The suggested method included identifying human faces from a webcam using the Viola-Jones technique, resizing the identified face to the desired size, and then processing the resized face using a basic Local Binary Patterns Histogram algorithm. After the recognition is completed, the attendance will be immediately updated in a SQLite database with the relevant information. Many institutions will profit greatly from this endeavor. As a result, the amount of time it takes and the number of human errors it makes are minimized, making it more efficient.

In this paper, clustering algorithms based on sensor module energy states to strengthen the network longevity of wireless sensor networks is proposed (i.e. modified MPCT algorithm) in which cluster head determination depends on the every cluster power centroid as well as power of the sensor nodes. Correspondence between cluster leader and sink module employ a parameter distance edge for lessening energy utilization. The outcome got shows a normal increment of 60% in network lifetime compared to Low energy adaptive protocol, Energy efficient midpoint initialization algorithm (EECPK-means), Park K-means algorithm and Mobility path selection protocol.

Enhancement of Energy Efficiency and Network Lifetime Using Modified MPCT Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract In recent years, cardiovascular disease becomes a prominent source of death. The web services connect other medical equipments and the computers via internet for exchanging and combining the data in novel ways. The accurate prediction of heart disease is important to prevent cardiac patients prior to heart attack. The main drawback of heart disease is delay in identifying the disease in the early stage. This objective is obtained by using the machine learning method with rich healthcare information on heart diseases. In this paper, the smart healthcare method is proposed for the prediction of heart disease using Biogeography optimization algorithm and Mexican hat wavelet to enhance Dragonfly algorithm optimization with mixed kernel based extreme learning machine (BMDA–MKELM) approach. Here, data is gathered from the two devices such as sensor nodes as well as the electronic medical records. The android based design is utilized to gather the patient data and the reliable cloud-based scheme for the data storage. For further evaluation for the prediction of heart disease, data are gathered from cloud computing services. At last, BMDA–MKELM based prediction scheme is capable to classify cardiovascular diseases. In addition to this, the proposed prediction scheme is compared with another method with respect to measures such as accuracy, precision, specificity, and sensitivity. The experimental results depict that the proposed approach achieves better results for the prediction of heart disease when compared with other methods.

MKELM: Mixed Kernel Extreme Learning Machine using BMDA optimization for web services based heart disease prediction in smart healthcare

A web service is a programmatically available application logic exposed over the internet and it has attracted much attention in recent years with the rapid development of e-commerce. Very few web services exist in the field of mathematics. The aim of this paper is to seamlessly provide user-centric mathematical web services to the service requester. In particular, this paper focuses on mathematical web services for prepositional logic and set theory which comes under discrete mathematics. A sophisticated user interface with virtual keyboard is created for accessing web services. Experimental results show that the web services and the created user interface are efficient and practical.

An Efficient Galactic Swarm Optimization Based Fractal Neural Network Model with DWT for Malignant Melanoma Prediction

Maintaining a healthy life is very important in today’s world. Our body has ability to fight against contagious diseases with the aid of white blood corpuscles (WBC) which generates natural immune system. Preserving a good WBC count is crucial as it leads to various hematological problems, one among them is Leukemia, a condition which results in blood cancer, huge accumulation of WBC cells in bone marrow, an abnormal growth of WBC cells, hinders natural immune system fighting against infectious diseases. White blood cells can be categorised into Eosinophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Neutrophils and Basophils. In this study, a pre-trained Convolutional neural network architecture called Le Net is used to automatically classify WBC cells. It efficiently classifies WBC cells from the given input sample blood cell images compared to other pre trained models such as Alex-Net and custom-built CNN called white capsule net. The hyper parameters Le Net are fine tuned to yield higher accuracy of 96%.
