This paper attempts to study the principal factors that are critical to the success of a construction project in Malaysia, and determine their relative importance as perceived by different respondents. The findings of this study will provide the researcher upto-date information in formulating appropriate strategies to address the challenges brought about by human-related issue. This paper will only discuss the first part of the ongoing research based on the pilot survey carried out.

The aim of the paper is to present the way of research project planning. The solution is based on chosen agile algorithm - SCRUM with using type-2 fuzzy numbers. The case study of real research project was taken into account to show an exemplary usage of suggested solution.

Agile methodologies conquer space beyond their industrial use. For applying them in a situation other than classic software development, one should first assess the features of this specific environment. As a next step, elements from various well-known agile methodologies (roles, events, products) can be considered as building blocks. These elements combined in a new way, adopted appropriately result in a specific, own agile methodology. In this study, we present a list of aspects that one should consider when creating a specific agile methodology for a R&D team. Our own agile methodology created for the txtUML R&D team from the Faculty of Informatics of Eotvos Lorand University is built along this list of aspects. Known and new agile elements were included in this specific methodology and are explained in this article in detail. The txtUML R&D methodology has been used with satisfaction since 2018, as evidenced by backward surveys.

Create your own agile methodology for your research and development team

The aim of the article is to present the concept of multi-dimensional and multi-criteria measurement of IT projects performance. This concept takes into account the characteristics of IT projects, recommendations on how to manage them, and the fact that project stakeholders have different needs/expectations for information from project evaluation.

Concept of Measuring the Performance of IT Projects

Decision making is a process that ranks or chooses subsets from given sets of options, for example, project proposals or machine tools, with high relevance in industry and economics. Each decision option may be associated with a degree of utility with respect to a specific criterion. Often experts are not willing or able to quantify utilities but rather compare individual pairs of options, which leads to fuzzy pairwise preference matrices. Conventionally, decision making on preference matrices uses scoring indices that exhibit different characteristics. Selecting the most appropriate scoring index is often difficult. Scoring indices are associated with different levels of risk, and none of these indices alone can be considered superior. We show that any fuzzy preference matrix induces interval utilities which can be interpreted as memberships of interval type-2 fuzzy sets, so preference-based decision making has to take into account uncertainty and therefore has to be risk sensitive. We propose a risk-sensitive preference-based decision making method called Pareto optimization of interval utilities (PIU) that chooses a subset of options ranked by degrees of risk. This allows the decision maker to choose an option that represents an appropriate trade-off between opportunity and risk for the given decision problem. Experiments with the YouTube Comedy Slam data set show that PIU compared with conventional scoring methods allows to trade a slight decrease in the best-case utility for a strong increase in the worst-case utility, and vice versa.

PIU: risk-sensitive decision making using Pareto optimization of interval utilities induced by fuzzy preference relations

According to contemporary literature, stakeholder management (which is one of the identified clues of sustainable project management) plays a significant role in successfully delivering construction projects. However, the literature focuses on the issues of stakeholder management/analysis mainly for large projects, and the authors could not find any items related to small construction projects. The aim of the article is to present the results of research conducted in small construction companies in the context of stakeholder management of their projects against the background of project success and sustainability. Many researchers have concluded that stakeholder management is one of the success factors of projects (including construction projects). Based on the conducted quantitative research, the needs in the field of stakeholder management of small construction companies’ projects were determined and the approaches used in this area were diagnosed. The research results indicate a low level of maturity of small construction companies in managing project stakeholders, which is a surprising result considering the fact that the literature on the subject emphasizes the importance of taking care of the project stakeholder management area and associating it with the project’s success.
