This paper aims to inform readers of suggested directions for researching how mobile technology can enhance active student learning. These directions are informed by an online survey of our students in early 2007 and a contemporary literature search. We present the findings of our search of global best-practice in m-learning, gaps in the current literature are identified and five directions are suggested for 2007 m-learning research and development. We start discussing how to investigate these suggested directions. Our five suggested action research directions are all significant issues in m-learning and all need to be better investigated. If we are interested in enhancing student learning, a priority is to design mlearning and teaching strategies that involve active experiential learning. These strategies need to effectively support our learners’ development of attitudes, understandings and skills in identified graduate attributes, curriculum objectives and stated learning outcomes.

Directions for m-learning research to enhance active learning

M-payments, which refer to payments over a mobile device, have not taken off as fast as predicted. Their slow adoption rates raise many questions about what drives consumer behaviour. The aim of this study is to find out what influences the user acceptance of a new system. The user is seen here as the key to acceptance of a new m-payment procedure, hence the focus on understanding their motivations and attitudes. To predict acceptance, Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been extensively used in information systems. This study is based on the belief that TAM needs to be expanded and customized to suit specific characteristics of mobile payments. This paper draws from prior studies that used TAM in fields related to mobile payments. Extensions of TAM in related fields are depicted. Analysis of suitability of various acceptance factors for mobile payments follows. The result of the analysis is a set of factors that are believed to influence the user acceptance of mobile payments: perceived ease of use, usefulness, mobility, cost, trust, and expressiveness. To measure each of these factors, multi-item scales using specific criteria are proposed. Further research will involve pilot study and possible improvement of the measuring scales, as well as further empirical validation of the model. The proposed model illustrates the level of fulfilment of each of the six acceptance factors in an m-payment system, and therefore predicts its adoption, as well as indicates areas of improvement.

Towards understanding of factors influencing user acceptance of mobile payment systems

The mobile payment market is currently under transition with a history of numerous tried and failed solutions and a future of promising but yet uncertain possibilities with contactless RFID and other new potential technologies. At this point of the development we take a look at the current state of the mobile payment market, review prior literature on mobile payment services, analyze the different factors that impact the market, and give directions for future research on this still emerging field. To facilitate the analysis, we propose a framework of four contingency and five competitive factors, and organize the contemporary mobile payment research under the proposed framework.

Mobile commerce promises to deliver e-commerce services directly into the consumers' hands - anytime, anywhere - using wireless technologies. Applying mobile access to computing creates both tremendous commercial opportunities and complexity, which makes computing globally pervasive and ubiquitous. Customers prefer a choice in the channels through which they do business and the same applies to transactions as well. This paper reports on a project which explored the current state of mobile financial transactions globally using Bluetooth as an enabling technology.
