Brain Tumor segmentation is one of the most crucial and arduous tasks in the terrain of medical image processing as a human-assisted manual classification can result in inaccurate prediction and diagnosis. Moreover, it is an aggravating task when there is a large amount of data present to be assisted. Brain tumors have high diversity in appearance and there is a similarity between tumor and normal tissues and thus the extraction of tumor regions from images becomes unyielding. In this paper, we proposed a method to extract brain tumor from 2D Magnetic Resonance brain Images (MRI) by Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm which was followed by traditional classifiers and convolutional neural network. The experimental study was carried on a real-time dataset with diverse tumor sizes, locations, shapes, and different image intensities. In traditional classifier part, we applied six traditional classifiers namely Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes and Random Forest which was implemented in scikit-learn. Afterward, we moved on to Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) which is implemented using Keras and Tensorflow because it yields to a better performance than the traditional ones. In our work, CNN gained an accuracy of 97.87%, which is very compelling. The main aim of this paper is to distinguish between normal and abnormal pixels, based on texture based and statistical based features.

Brain Tumor Detection Using Convolutional Neural Network

In recent decades, human brain tumor detection has become one of the most challenging issues in medical science. In this paper, we propose a model that includes the template-based K means and improved fuzzy C means (TKFCM) algorithm for detecting human brain tumors in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) image. In this proposed algorithm, firstly, the template-based K-means algorithm is used to initialize segmentation significantly through the perfect selection of a template, based on gray-level intensity of image; secondly, the updated membership is determined by the distances from cluster centroid to cluster data points using the fuzzy C-means (FCM) algorithm while it contacts its best result, and finally, the improved FCM clustering algorithm is used for detecting tumor position by updating membership function that is obtained based on the different features of tumor image including Contrast, Energy, Dissimilarity, Homogeneity, Entropy, and Correlation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better detection of abnormal and normal tissues in the human brain under small detachment of gray-level intensity. In addition, this algorithm detects human brain tumors within a very short time—in seconds compared to minutes with other algorithms.

Automatic Human Brain Tumor Detection in MRI Image Using Template-Based K Means and Improved Fuzzy C Means Clustering Algorithm

An ensemble learning approach for brain cancer detection exploiting radiomic features.

In the present era, human brain tumor is the extremist dangerous and devil to the human being that leads to certain death. Furthermore, the brain tumor arises more complexity of patients life with time. As a result, early detection of tumors is most crucial to save and prolong the patient’s lifetime. Therefore, enhanced brain tumor detection is required in medical fields. Automatic human brain tumor detection in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is playing a vital role in several symptomatic and cures applications. However, the existing schemes (e.g., random forest, Fuzzy C-means, artificial neural network (ANN) and wavelet transform) can detect brain tumors with insufficient accuracy and longer execution time (in minutes). In this paper, we propose an enhanced brain tumor detection scheme based on the template-based K-means (TK) algorithm with superpixels and principal component analysis (PCA) which efficiently detects the human brain tumors in lower execution time. At first, we extract essential features using both superpixels and PCA which helps accurately to detect brain tumors. Then, image enhancement is done using a filter that helps to improve accuracy. Finally, the image segmentation is performed through TK-means clustering algorithm to detect the brain tumor. The experimental results show that the proposed detection scheme achieves a better accuracy and a reduced execution time (in seconds) than other existing schemes for the detection of brain tumor in MR image.

Brain tumor detection in MR image using superpixels, principal component analysis and template based K-means clustering algorithm

In the recent ascensions of the electronic era, brain tumor segmentation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become popular interest in the field of medical imaging system. Brain tumor segmentation helps the user to determine the precise size of the tumors. We have suggested a synergistic and an effective algorithm for the detection of brain tumors based on Median filtering, K Means Segmentation, FCM Segmentation, and finally, threshold segmentation. In this proposed approach we enhance the quality of the tumor images acquired by the aid of MRI and then to detect the size of the tumors, approximate reasoning are applied.

Brain Tumor Segmentation and its Area Calculation in Brain MR Images using K-Mean Clustering and Fuzzy C-Mean Algorithm

Automated defect detection in medical imaging has become the emergent field in several medical diagnostic applications. Automated detection of tumor in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is very crucial as it provides information about abnormal tissues which is necessary for planning treatment. The conventional method for defect detection in magnetic resonance brain images is human inspection. This method is impractical for large amount of data. So, automated tumor detection methods are developed as it would save radiologist time. The MRI brain tumor detection is complicated task due to complexity and variance of tumors. In this paper, tumor is detected in brain MRI using machine learning algorithms. The proposed work is divided into three parts: preprocessing steps are applied on brain MRI images, texture features are extracted using Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and then classification is done using machine learning algorithm.

Magnetic resonance imaging is important imaging technique used in the detection of brain tumor. Brain tumor is one of the most dangerous diseases occurring among the human beings. Brain MRI plays a very important role for radiologists to diagnose and treat brain tumor patients. Study of the medical image by the radiologist is a time consuming process and also the accuracy depends upon their experience. Thus, the computer aided systems becomes very necessary as they overcome these limitations. Several automated methods are available, but automating this process is very difficult because of different appearance of the tumor among the different patients. There are various feature extraction and classification methods which are used for detection of brain tumor from MRI images. In this paper, various approaches are reviewed enlightening the advantages and disadvantages of these methods.
