Epigenetic mechanisms in respiratory muscle dysfunction of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Ester Puig-Vilanova,Rafael Aguiló,Alberto Rodríguez-Fuster,Juana Martínez-Llorens,Joaquim Gea,Esther Barreiro +5 more
TL;DR: In the main respiratory muscle of COPD patients with a wide range of disease severity and normal body composition, muscle-specific microRNAs were downregulated, while HDAC4 and MEF2C levels were upregulated, and it is likely that these epigenetic events act as biological adaptive mechanisms to better overcome the continuous inspiratory loads of the respiratory system in COPD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined aerobic exercise and high-intensity respiratory muscle training in patients surgically treated for non-small cell lung cancer: a pilot randomized clinical trial.
Monique Messaggi-Sartor,Ester Marco,Elisabeth Martínez-Téllez,Alberto Rodríguez-Fuster,Carolina Palomares,Sandra Chiarella,Josep M. Muniesa,Mauricio Orozco-Levi,Esther Barreiro,Maria R. Güell +9 more
TL;DR: An 8-week exercise program consisting of aerobic exercise and high-intensity respiratory muscle training improved exercise capacity, respiratory muscle strength, and serum IGFBP-3 levels in NSCLC patients after lung resection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morbidity and mortality in a large series of surgical patients with pulmonary metastases of colorectal carcinoma: a prospective multicentre Spanish study (GECMP-CCR-SEPAR)
Alberto Rodríguez-Fuster,José Belda-Sanchis,Rafael Aguiló,Raul Embun,Sergi Mojal,Sergi Call,Laureano Molins,Juan José Rivas de Andrés,Javier Ruiz Zafra,Carlos Pagés Navarrete,Javier de la Cruz Lozano,Juan J. Rivas de Andrés,Raul Embún Flor,Jorge Freixinet,Miguel Carbajo Carbajo,Carlos Rombolá,Félix Heras,José Manuel Mier Odriozola,Francisco Rivas Doyague,Emilio Canalís Arrayas,Matilde Rubio Garay,Esther Fernández Araujo,Santiago García Barajas,José M. Garcia Franco,Richard Wins,Antonio Arnau,Juan Manuel Córcoles Padilla,Guillermo Carriquiry,Moisés Rosenberg,D.C. Smith +38 more
TL;DR: The first episode of lung surgery for pulmonary metastases of CRC was associated with very low mortality and reoperation rates (<1%), and independent risk factors of postoperative morbidity were major lung resection and respiratory and/or cardiovascular co-morbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Causal Model of Survival After Pulmonary Metastasectomy of Colorectal Cancer: A Nationwide Prospective Registry
Raul Embun,Juan J. Rivas de Andrés,Sergi Call,Beatriz de Olaiz Navarro,Jorge Freixinet,Sergio Bolufer,José Ramón Jarabo,Nuria Pajuelo,Laureano Molins,Juan J. Rivas,Francisco Rivas-Doyague,Jorge Hernández-Ferrández,Félix Heras,Javier de la Cruz,M. Rubio,Esther Fernández,Miguel Carbajo Carbajo,Rafael Peñalver,Diego Gonzalez-Rivas,Carlos Pages,D. E. Smith,Richard Wins,Antonio Arnau,Andrés Arroyo,Carmen Marrón,Akiko Tamura,Montse Blanco,Beatriz de Olaiz,Gemma Muñoz,José M. García Prim,Carlos Rombolá,Santiago García-Barajas,Alberto Rodríguez-Fuster,Javier Ruiz-Zafra,Guillermo Carriquiry,Moisés Rosenberg,Emilio Canalís +36 more
TL;DR: According to these results from the Spanish Group of Lung Metastases of Colo-Rectal Cancer, the combination of these four variables-disease-free interval, carcinoembryonic antigen level, laterality, and thoracic lymph node involvement-constitutes the first-choice survival causal model based on the clinical and pathologic factors most frequently referenced in literature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systemic and Tumor Th1 and Th2 Inflammatory Profile and Macrophages in Lung Cancer: Influence of Underlying Chronic Respiratory Disease
Mercè Mateu-Jimenez,Mercè Mateu-Jimenez,Víctor Curull,Víctor Curull,Lara Pijuan,Albert Sánchez-Font,Albert Sánchez-Font,Hugo Rivera-Ramos,Alberto Rodríguez-Fuster,Rafael Aguiló,Joaquim Gea,Joaquim Gea,Esther Barreiro,Esther Barreiro +13 more
TL;DR: The relative predominance of T helper 1 cytokines and M1 macrophages in the blood and tumors of patients with underlying COPD imply that a stronger proinflammatory pattern exists in these patients.
