Game-like approaches are becoming increasingly popular in education, with educational games and gamification drawing increasing levels of attention. While games specifically designed for educational purposes have been used for decades, gamification is particularly new and contrasting evidence was presented about its effectiveness. The potential of social networks has also been harnessed by educators and institutions either using popular social networking sites or specific educational instances. This paper studies how well-established approaches (educational game and social networking) compare with more novel ones (gamification and social gamification) in terms of learning performance in an undergraduate course. Four experimental conditions were compared in an experiment (N?=?379). Results suggest that all experimental conditions significantly impact on learning performance, but social gamification returned better results in terms of immediacy and for all types of assessments. Educational games, gamification and social networking are compared.Specific instruments are used or designed for each approach.Four experimental groups and one control group (N?=?379) are part of the experiment.All experimental conditions improve learning in practical assessments.Social gamification returns better results initially and across all learning activities.

This paper presents a new approach to the integration of web services for e-learning through cloud computing infrastructure. The primary goal is to improve the performance of the existing e-learning system where group adaptation is applied. The proposed method includes an integration of information, processes, applications and human resources in the e-learning system. Integration is based on a web application we developed for managing the learning environment. The application enables an integration of the Moodle, the OpenLDAP directory for managing user accounts, and the OpenNebula toolkit for managing a cloud computing infrastructure. The major advantage of the suggested approach is that the existing system for adaptive e-learning does not need any changes, while it becomes more available and suitable for ubiquitous learning. We evaluated the implemented environment in an undergraduate course at the E-Business Lab, University of Belgrade.

Scaffolding Environment for Adaptive E-learning through Cloud Computing.

This study presents the MCDM model created for the selection of a dump truck for the needs of the army engineering units, based primarily on the truck’s construction features and purchasing and maintenance costs. In this study was used the Methodology of Additive Weights (LMAW) in Fuzzy surrounding for determination of weight coefficients of criteria, while for the selection of the optimal alternative (for a dump truck) it was used the Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to Compromise Solution (MARCOS) method, modified by interval grey numbers. Input data for this methodology were obtained by engaging experts. Finally, the analysis was made of the sensitivity of output results of the proposed MCDM methodology to the change of weight coefficients of criteria, as well as the comparison of the obtained results with the results of other methodologies. In the conclusion, the proposed model showed stability but it was sensitive to weight coefficients change which should be taken into account by defining the same by experts.

Development of the MCDM fuzzy LMAW-grey MARCOS model for selection of a dump truck

In this paper we present integration of social network services into engineering e-learning courses. The main goal of this paper is the improvement of quality of educational process. We propose a model of application of Facebook services in e-education. The results show that students who used Facebook for educational purposes had better achievement on exam.

Fostering enginering e-learning courses with social network services

The Logarithm Methodology of Additive Weights (LMAW) method is a very young method and in its basic form is defined for crisp values. In this paper, the LMAW method was improved by being modified with triangular fuzzy numbers. The modification significantly improved the capacity of the LMAW method to consider uncertainty in decision making. The special importance of the method is reflected in a relatively simple mathematical apparatus due to which it is possible to define, with high quality, weight coefficients of criteria and rank alternative solutions in uncertain environments. The method was tested in solving the problem of the location selection for a landing operations point (LOP) in combat operations of the army. The validation of the obtained results was performed: (1) by means of comparison with the Fuzzy Simple Additive Weighting (FSAW) Method, the Fuzzy Multi-Attributive Border Approximation area Comparison (FMABAC), the fuzzy Višekriterijumsko KOmpromisno Rangiranje (FVIKOR), the fuzzy COmpressed PRoportional ASsessment (FCOPRAS), and the fuzzy Multi Attributive Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis (FMAIRCA); (2) by means of sensitivity analysis by changing the weight coefficients of criteria; and (3) using simulation software. In comparison with other methods, the quality of the ranking of alternative solutions was confirmed, which highlighted the special importance of the fuzzy LMAW method relative to that of certain standard methods, respectively, the ones that are often used and confirmed in practice. On the other hand, the sensitivity analysis, including the changing of the weight coefficients of criteria, showed that the model could tolerate smaller errors in defining the weight coefficients of criteria, and it provided stable results. Finally, the validation of results achieved with the use of simulation software confirmed the obtained output results. The output results confirmed the quality of the modified method.

Modification of the Logarithm Methodology of Additive Weights (LMAW) by a Triangular Fuzzy Number and Its Application in Multi-Criteria Decision Making

In this paper we present an approach to developing web portal for adaptive e-learning. Educational web portal is single access point to all relevant information, resources and applications in the education process. Web portal integrates different functionalities and services for adaptation of e-learning courses with existing learning management system Moodle. Integration includes: educational web portal users, information, processes and software platforms used in e-learning system. We describe architecture of the portal for adaptive e-learning, technologies, design and techniques applied in implementation of portal's key components.
