A method includes receiving a request to process, against an electronic wallet, a portion of a transaction, an electronic wallet optionally comprising a sub-wallet, the transaction processed against the wallet and/or sub-wallet. The method further includes identifying one or more electronic value tokens in the e-wallet and/or sub-wallet that, when used together, will cover the portion of the transaction. The method further includes applying the electronic value tokens to the portion of the transaction.

A Time-Of-Flight mass spectrometer is configured with a pulsing region and electronic controls to cause the directing of ions to a surface in the Time-Of-Flight pulsing region. The population of ions resulting from the collecting of said ions on or near said surface is subsequently accelerated into the Time-Of-Flight tube for mass to charge analysis. Ions produced away from said surface located in the pulsing region of a Time-Of-Flight mass spectrometer can be directed to the surface with high or low surface collisional energies. Higher energy ion collisions with the surface can result in Surface Induced Dissociation fragmentation and the resulting ion fragment population can be accelerated into Time-Of-Flight tube where the ions are mass to charge analyzed. Ion mass to charge selection can occur prior to directing ions to the pulsing region surface allowing MS/MS Time-Of-Flight mass analysis with SID. Ion to surface low energy collisions or soft landings resulting in little or no ion fragmentation provide a means for spatially focusing ions on or near the surface prior to accelerating the surface collected ions into the Time-Of-Flight tube. The apparatus and methods described in the invention result in refined control of ion fragmentation energy and improved Time-Of-Flight mass to charge analysis performance.

A monitor that can detect at least one trace molecule in a gas sample. The monitor may include a photoionizer (102) that is coupled to an electron-ionization mass spectrometer (100). The photoionizer (102) may ionize the gas sample at a wavelength(s) which ionizes the trace molecules without creating fragmentation. The inclusion of the electron-ionizer (106) may allow alternate or additional ionization to detect trace molecules not ionized by the photoionizer (102). The gas sample may be ionized at atmospheric pressure which increases the yield of the ionized trace molecules and the sensitivity of the mass spectrometer (100).

A method and mass spectrometer system for trapping ions within an ion trap by increasing the flight path of ions therein. An ion beam is produced by external ion source and is directed to the ion trap which comprises at least one trapping electrode in proximity to an exit region of the ion beam from the ion trap. A retarding DC voltage is applied to the trapping electrode during ion accumulation time for creating a fringing reflection field and for retaining ions within the ion trap.

Method for trapping ions into ion traps and ion trap mass spectrometer system thereof

A method of ion collection over a wide mass-to-charge range from continuous ion source into a quadrupole ion trap filled with a buffer gas directing an ion beam, from an external ion source to a radio frequency ion trap through a gating device for a predetermined period of accumulation time to allow the beam to enter the trap, trapping ions over a range of masses by applying a radio frequency voltage to the trap and changing an amplitude of the radio frequency voltage adiabatically to achieve a uniform trapping efficiency for ions over a predetermined mass range. The predetermined period of accumulation time may be divided into a plurality of segments, and the amplitude of the radio-frequency voltage is changing adiabatically within each segment.
