A process for the manufacture of a rack, specially a rack having variable transmission, wherein the teeth of the rack have in the central area a profile different from that of the outer portions. The rack is formed from a blank in a press having an upper die and a lower die. The rack is manufactured by cold-mold pressing and one die portion carries out, during the pressing operations, a wobbling movement over the blank. In an apparatus for carrying out the process, a die forms the negative mold for the lower portion of the rack to be manufactured. In the other die is molded in negative mold the toothed profile of the rack to be manufactured.

An upsetting or forging machine in which in a die set there is provided one die arranged to carry out a circular rocking motion about a point associated with the center of the die set, means being provided for adjusting the angularity of the axis of the rocking die in relation to the axis of the other die of the die set and a bearing means being provided to compensate for any changes in die dimensions due to heating and thus prevent seizing up of the dies.

Upsetting or forging machines

A method of producing a vibration-isolating bushing with which it is possible to secure a larger area of the edge surface of an inner cylinder than in the prior art method. In upsetting one extremity of the inner cylinder by cold plastic working, after a rubber elastomer is secured to the outer circumference of the inner cylinder by vulcanization molding, as a jig for pressing onto the edge surface of the inner cylinder, an upsetting jig whose top surface is flat is used and the top surface of the jig is pressed onto the edge surface of the inner cylinder while causing the jig to gyrate on a conical orbit centering the axis of the inner cylinder, whereby the outside diameter only of the extremity is enlarged while suppressing the enlarging of the inside diameter.

Method of producing vibration-isolating bushing

A tool for forming heads on rivets or the like. The tool includes cooperating internal and external gears and a driven shaft having an axis of rotation that is inclined relative to the axis of the driving shaft for establishing a planetary movement of the driven shaft as the drive shaft rotates. A head forming tool is carried by the driven shaft and is disposed at an angle to the axes of the driving and driven shafts. Due to this angular orientation the tool wipes across the surface of the rivet to work form this surface and upset it.

Different surfaces of articles are shaped by means of a shaping tool. The active surface of the shaping tool is rolled reversibly along the shaped surface with a point contact in the axial plane of the shaped surface, such axial plane turning around the axis of the shaped surface, the amplitude of this reversible relative rolling being selected arbitrarily.
