A power delivery system wirelessly deliver electric power and a communication signal to a target device. The power delivery system includes a power transmitting unit having a power source operable to source alternating current power and a sending resonant coupling component operable to couple the alternating current power to a coil for wireless power transmission by a non-radiated magnetic field at a target resonant frequency. The power transmitting unit is capable of dynamically tuning the wireless power transmission to the target resonant frequency wherein the target resonant frequency is specified dynamically. A communication module couples to the power transmitting unit and is operable to couple the communication signal to the non-radiated magnetic field. Operations may include target device authentication, target resonant frequency information communication, billing, and device management.

Integrated wireless resonant power charging and communication channel

Connected Vehicle Technology (CVT) requires wireless data transmission between vehicles (V2V), and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I). Evaluating the performance of different network options for V2V and V2I communication that ensure optimal utilization of resources is a prerequisite when designing and developing robust wireless networks for CVT applications. Though dedicated short range communication (DSRC) has been considered as the primary communication option for CVT safety applications, the use of other wireless technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi, LTE, WiMAX) allow longer range communications and throughput requirements that could not be supported by DSRC alone. Further, the use of other wireless technology potentially reduces the need for costly DSRC infrastructure. In this research, the authors evaluated the performance of Het-Net consisting of Wi-Fi, DSRC and LTE technologies for V2V and V2I communications. An application layer handoff method was developed to enable Het-Net communication for two CVT applications: traffic data collection, and forward collision warning. The handoff method ensures the optimal utilization of available communication options (i.e., eliminate the need of using multiple communication options at the same time) and corresponding backhaul communication infrastructure depending on the connected vehicle application requirements. Field studies conducted in this research demonstrated that the use of Het-Net broadened the range and coverage of V2V and V2I communications. The use of the application layer handoff technique to maintain seamless connectivity for CVT applications was also successfully demonstrated and can be adopted in future Het-Net supported connected vehicle applications. A long handoff time was observed when the application switches from LTE to Wi-Fi. The delay is largely due to the time required to activate the 802.11 link and the time required for the vehicle to associate with the RSU (i.e., access point). Modifying the application to implement a soft handoff where a new network is seamlessly connected before breaking from the existing network can greatly reduce (or eliminate) the interruption of network service observed by the application. However, the use of a Het-Net did not compromise the performance of the traffic data collection application as this application does not require very low latency, unlike connected vehicle safety applications. Field tests revealed that the handoff between networks in Het-Net required several seconds (i.e., higher than 200 ms required for safety applications). Thus, Het-Net could not be used to support safety applications that require communication latency less than 200 ms. However, Het-Net could provide additional/supplementary connectivity for safety applications to warn vehicles upstream to take proactive actions to avoid problem locations. To validate and establish the findings from field tests that included a limited number of connected vehicles, ns-3 simulation experiments with a larger number of connected vehicles were conducted involving a DSRC and LTE Het-Net scenario. The latency and packet delivery error trend obtained from ns-3 simulation were found to be similar to the field experiment results.

Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication in a heterogeneous wireless network – Performance evaluation

Method and apparatus for facilitating inter-cell connections, such as during a forward handover or radio link failure (RLF), are disclosed. A user terminal such as a UE may store identity information associated with a source cell, and use this information in accessing target or other cells subsequent to radio link failure so as to facilitate access to context information of the user terminal. A base station may be configured to improve handover performance by associating context information with a newly assigned terminal identity. Handover performance may be enhanced by facilitating connection processing in the event of inability to retrieve user terminal context from a source cell.

Methods and apparatus for facilitating robust forward handover in long term evolution (lte) communication systems

Techniques for performing forward handover in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) transmits a connection request to a target eNodeB. The connection request may be transmitted when the UE detects a connection failure in a communication with a source eNodeB. The UE receives a connection response from the target eNodeB in response to the target eNodeB requesting handover preparation information from the source eNodeB. In another aspect, a target eNodeB may receive a connection request from a user equipment (UE) and transmit a radio link failure (RLF) recovery request message to a source eNodeB to prompt the source eNodeB to initiate handover of the UE from the source eNodeB.

In a mobile communication method according to the present invention includes the steps of: transmitting, from a handover source radio base station to a swithcing center, a handover request including an NCC, a PCI and a K eNB *; changing, at the swithcing center, the NCC, changing, at the swithcing center, the K eNB * on the basis of the PCI, and transmitting, from the swithcing center to the handover target radio base station, the handover request including the changed NCC and the changed K eNB *; generating, at the handover target radio base station, a first key on the basis of the K eNB *; and generating, at the mobile station, the first key on the basis of the NCC and the PCI included in a handover command.

A mobile communication method according to the present invention includes a step of transmitting, by a radio base station DeNB, “(S1) Initial UE message” indicating the attach process executed as the relay node RN to a mobile management node MME in response to “Attach Request (RN)” received from the relay node RN having a secure channel established between the relay node RN and USIM-RN, a step of starting, by the mobile management node MME, “EPS-AKA” between the relay node RN and the USIM-RN in response to the “(S1) Initial UE message”, and a step of failing in the “EPS-AKA” when it is determined that the USIM-RN cannot be used for the attach process executed as the relay node RN.

Handover in future wireless communication systems must be seamless. Current IP-level mobility protocols have difficulties meeting the stringent handover delay requirements. At the same time they do not give sufficient control to the network to optimize the handover process and they do not deal well with slow connection setups of some wireless technologies. In this paper we propose an enhancement of Proxy MIPv6 (PMIPv6) with Simultaneous bindings. The result, called SPMIPv6, is a proactive network- controlled handover solution that allows some handover processes to be carried proactively while the mobile node is connected to the serving network. We analyze SPMIPv6 performance and show that the handover latency can be limited to one RTT between the mobile node and the target access router, which is typically below 10ms, and that the packet loss due to handover can be decreased and eliminated by appropriately buffering packets at the target access router. Moreover, our performance evaluation based on a SPMIPv6 implementation shows no TCP and UDP performance degradation during handovers. Two important characteristics of SPMIPv6 are its robustness to incorrect handover predictions and its built-in features to accommodate large network attachment latencies.

An eUICC 100 embedded in an UE 200 authenticates an AUTN transmitted from an HSS 300 , and calculates a transfer key TK by using a secret key K. The eUICC 100 acquires a transfer Token by decoding an enc Token by using the transfer key TK, and acquires a new Customer ID by decoding an enc New ID by using the transfer key TK. The eUICC 100 transmits a user auth resp in response to a User auth+transfer Setup Req including the AUTN, the enc Token, and the enc New ID to the HSS 300 . The eUICC 100 generates a shared-Secret Key shared between the eUICC 100 and an HSS 400 by using the transfer Token, and executes an attach procedure for the HSS 400 by using the generated shared-Secret Key and the new Customer ID.
