The paper describes an ontology-based approach for integrating interactive user modeling and learning content management to deal with typical adaptation problems, such as cold start and dynamics of the user's knowledge, in the context of the Semantic Web. An integrated OntoAIMS system is presented and its viability discussed based on user studies. The work demonstrates some novel aspects, such as (a) ontological approach for integration of methods for eliciting and utilizing of user models; (b) improved adaptation functionality resulted from that integration, validated with real users; (c) support of interoperability and reusability of adaptive components.

Integrating open user modeling and learning content management for the semantic web

The development of mobile applications has represented a challenge and opportunity for companies to market their brands and products through a new channel; however, the branded mobile applications (branded apps) currently available in the market are far from perfect and existing app designs do not yet have wellestablished mobile and social features. This article offers systematic guidelines for branded app design by identifying different levels of strategies that should be taken into consideration by companies. We illustrate five business objectives (communication, customer relationship management, sales, product innovation, and marketing research) and identify five types of branded apps (tool-, game-, social-, m-commerce-, and design-centric). Three functional building blocks are proposed to specify how mobile features, social features, and brand mention elements should be incorporated into branded app development. Various examples of branded apps are provided to illustrate relevant best practices in order to guide marketers in improving branded app design.

Preventive care study: a resource orchestration view

This paper reports a map of identified topics from mobile learning research. Mobile learning is an emerging paradigm in an educational context as its adoption in an educational institution is growing rapidly. The students are already using and familiar with it.  The publications from the last ten years were examined. Two approaches were employed to identify themes, i.e. word cloud and Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The result shows that mobile learning research is shifting from the development into optimization paradigm. This research is beneficial for mobile learning literature to inform the researcher and practitioner in the mobile learning area in terms of research topic trend and therefore consider it as a basis for designing mobile learning system in the future.

Discovering Trends of Mobile Learning Research Using Topic Modelling Approach

This paper reports on a systematic literature review aimed at mapping current practices regarding the use of participatory design in the development of healthcare systems and identifying a future research roadmap. Our analysis of 52 papers revealed eight participatory design principles. These principles demand that designers pay attention to the actors' habits and perspectives; their relationship; their mastery of techniques, language and technology; and the implementation process and context. The review also identifies at least four future research avenues that suggest that researchers pay more attention to the variety of end users involved in the participatory design process, develop a common framework that can be used in various contexts, focus on a broader context (beyond hospital and home) in which the system is developed and used and examine what methods fit best with certain development contexts.

Participatory design in the development of healthcare systems: a literature review

Social networking sites are very popular. At this time a lot of social networking sites that emerge and evolve. Some of which the most popular are Facebook, Twitter, path, myspace. These sites are popular because it has many users from various groups including the student. Students including active users of social networking sites. The majority of the students even already have an account at more than one site of several social networking sites. Social networking sites can be used by students for a variety of purposes, one of them as a medium of learning. This research is a case study to explore the use of social networking sites as a medium of learning among the students. A total of 42 students were respondents in this study. Results of the analysis found that social networking sites are already quite familiar among students as a means to socialize as well as a learning medium. In addition, it features a social networking site which is used as a medium of learning is not much different from the usual features that are used for other purposes.

Learner’s Perception on Open Learner Model

Recently, mobile devices have been used by so many users coming from various background. The students in high schools are among the most frequent user. Just like the other users, the students are utilizing the devices to do various tasks such as to help them finish their assignments. With qualitative approach, this paper aims to report the explorative works searching for the determinant factors that affecting the usage of mobile technology in learning environment. The study reveals that the availability of course-related contents, the role of authority, and the limitations of mobile devices are among the main determinant factors to the adoption of mobile learning in high schools.
