Since digital piracy has posed a significant threat to the development of the software industry and the growth of the digital media industry, it has, for the last decade, held considerable interest for researchers and practitioners. This article will propose an integrated model that combines the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and ethics theory, the two theories that are most often used in digital piracy studies. Data were obtained from university students in China, and the model was examined using the structural equation model (SEM). The results show that moral obligation and justice, derived from ethics theories and TPB variables, such as attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, influence the behavioral intentions of individuals to commit digital piracy. The attitude of individuals toward digital piracy is also found to be influenced by perceived benefits, perceived risk, and habit.

Today, mobile application (App) is a new emerging mobile technology and has been widely used. This new mobile artifact not only overturns the traditional business model of mobile industry, but also creates new avenues of mobile market opportunities. Although mobile pay-per-use services have attracted increased attention in recent years, few studies have provided limited insight into mobile technology adoption in pay-per-use services. In this study, we examine the determinants of behavioral intention of Apps users based on the theory of consumption values, and explore the roles of these values in mobile Apps context. Hypothesis testing was performed with structural equation modeling (SEM) on data collected from 282 mobile Apps users. The results reveal that consumption values significantly affect consumer behavioral intention to use mobile Apps. Among them, epistemic and motional values have stronger relationships with behavioral intention. Moreover, conditional value influences mobile App users' behavioral intention via the mediation of other consumption values (functional, social, emotional, and epistemic value). Finally, implications of the findings and areas for future research are discussed.

The intention to download music files in a P2P environment: Consumption value, fashion, and ethical decision perspectives

Downloading unauthorized music file is deemed illegal and immoral, but the peer-to-peer systems have boosted its popularity. Many authors attributed this phenomenon to the low morality of Internet users, but inconclusive evidence to this argument was found. Extant literature seldom noticed that downloading music files is a new mean of music consumption. People, especially young generation, might rationally choose between downloading music files and buying CDs for greater utility for enjoying and pursuing after the fashion of music. This paper presents a conceptual model of file downloading by looking at and integrating these perspectives. An analysis of 834 samples drew from a questionnaire survey of P2P users in Taiwan generally supports the above assertion.
