Comparison of the specificity of PCR and the histopathological detection of leishmania for the diagnosis of American cutaneous leishmaniasis

TL;DR: The present results strongly suggest the use of PCR for the etiological confirmation of ACL, with emphasis on the mucosal form, in patients with a clinical and/or laboratory diagnosis of ACL.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oral leishmaniasis: a clinicopathological study of 11 cases

TL;DR: The clinicopathological data of 11 cases of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis with oral manifestations are described, and two cases of Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis and one case of Leistmania (Leishmania) amazonensis were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism or DNA sequencing in mucosal samples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential HLA class I and class II associations in pemphigus foliaceus and pemphigus vulgaris patients from a prevalent Southeastern Brazilian region.

TL;DR: The findings corroborate the differential genetic markers in PF and PV in an area where pemphigus is prevalent but not yet reported and differentiate genetic patterns and not yet described HLA susceptibility/protection alleles/haplotypes profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Complementary exams in the diagnosis of American tegumentary leishmaniasis.

TL;DR: This article aims to recall fundamental concepts of any diagnostic test, including immunological tests such as Montenegro's skin test, serology and detection of parasites by direct examination, culture or histopathology, and the new technologies and options for the diagnosis of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
