This paper presents a framework for studying the concepts of fit and flexibility in the field of Strategic Human Resource Management (Strategic HRM) focusing on HRM practices, employee skills, and employee behaviors and reviews past conceptual and empirical work within that framework. A model of Strategic HRM is presented and this model is used to explore the concepts of fit and flexibility as they apply to Strategic HRM. The concepts of resource and coordination flexibility are applied to Strategic HRM, and the implications of the framework for both the practice of and research on Strategic HRM are discussed.

Toward a Unifying Framework for Exploring Fit and Flexibility in Strategic Human Resource Management

The purpose of this book is to measure and evaluate the supply chain performance of the Volta Aluminium Company and upon the results, make recommendations and suggestions to the management, which can assist also other companies in their decision-making. Once that actually, companies operate their business in an increasingly changeable and unpredictable enviroment, where competition assumes global scale, they need to look for new ideals, new tools and new methods. The proposed framework grounds on the Methodology of performance measuring systems, plying to the measurement of both tangible and intangible assets, and also measuring supply chain performance internally and externally. The framework developed enhance the use of a group of metrics across all organisations, this metrics are a fundamental part of a measuring system adapted to strategy, goals, key performance areas, process elements and activities, enabling evaluating defined goals, leading to decisions making and the implementation of improvement actions.

Measuring Supply Chain Performance

The ability to attract and retain the talents is an important factor in the competitiveness of countries, as it is confirmed in our study. At the level of small and medium-sized enterprises, hiring and retaining skilled workers is one of the most difficult tasks of HR management, especially in transition economies with a high intensity of “leaching out” the skilled workers due to labour migration. Our research in Ukraine, which is a prime example of such countries, conducted via the cluster analysis allows us to conclude that the problems of hiring and retaining skilled workers have some connection with profitability: there is almost always a problem with filling vacancies with people of all educational levels in unprofitable enterprises, which is not typical of profitable businesses. The main problems with filling vacancies according to employers’ estimations are: 1) market factors – shortage of employees with the required skills; 2) internal problems of ensuring the attractiveness of jobs (material – pay, and intangible – career prospects, flexible working hours, legal employment); 3) internal factors of inefficient HR management, including recruiting; 4) psycho-physiological factors of job satisfaction. However, there are no close links between the factors of hiring effectiveness and retention of skilled workers with the economic success of the organization in the form of the growth of assets, revenues and stuff. This leads to the conclusion that the practices of human resources management in small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine are largely built chaotic, without analyzing the impact on the efficiency of the use of other resources and without providing links with the overall economic efficiency of enterprises.

Hiring and retaining skilled employees in smes: problems in human resource practices and links with organizational success

This paper examines the impact of supply chain integration on organizational performance in Jordanian banking sector. Supply chain integration is divided into two categories: customer and internal integration. Organizational performance comprises of the following perspectives: customers, internal processes, organizational capacity and stewardship. The results demonstrate that supply chain integration is significantly related to organizational performance. Evidence of the improved organisational performance is also provided in the feedback from some of the surveyed banks. Internal integration impacts all four organizational performance dimensions; however, customer integration has impact only on customer perspective. The results suggest that improved customer involvement could help develop the banks' performance. Primary data was collected by using a questionnaire at Jordanian banks. The research model was tested using data from the sample (n=112) of nine banks in Jordan. The data was analysed by means of exploratory factor analysis. Supply chain integration, organizational performance and balanced scorecard: An empirical study of the banking sector in Jordan

Managing and evaluating the probability of bankruptcy of Ukrainian enterprises is one of the most complex and relevant problems of the economy and management. In the context of Ukraine’s integration into the international space, there is an arising issue of assessing the bankruptcy of Ukrainian enterprises that meets international financial standards and allows administering this process. A qualitative assessment of the bankruptcy of an enterprise is possible only using artificial intelligence methods – the fuzzy sets method, which allows including qualitative and quantitative indicators to the model for assessing bankruptcy of enterprises in Ukraine. The aim of the article is to improve the existing method for assessing the probability of bankruptcy of Ukrainian enterprises on the basis of the fuzzy sets method, which will include indicators of international financial reporting and allow more efficient administration and management of this process. The subject of the research is the process of formalizing the method of the enterprise bankruptcy assessment in accordance with the indicators of International Financial Reporting Standards. The study offers a mechanism for a comprehensive assessment of the probability of bankruptcy of Ukrainian enterprises with the use of the methods of fuzzy sets, which is based on international financial indicators: current ratio, payable turnover ratio, equity turnover ratio, return on assets, equity-to-debt ratio. The mechanism allows quickly managing bankruptcy conditions. In order to administer the economic activity of the bankrupt enterprises, based on the theory of a fuzzy sets, a system of enterprises management takes into account the international financial reporting.

Management and comprehensive assessment of the probability of bankruptcy of Ukrainian enterprises based on the methods of fuzzy sets theory

In the context of an unstable business environment, companies should be looking for a mechanism to deal with uncertainty. Flexibility maybe one of those mechanisms which can help company to cope with instability in the best way possible. As one of the basic types of flexibility, operational flexibility has become an essential capability which an organization seeks to acquire because it enables companies to respond quickly and effectively to dynamic environments, and as a result, improve firm performance. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between operational flexibility and firm performance. The sample consists of 90 industrial companies in Jordan, and the questionnaire has been developed for and distributed to senior managers and managers in operations, product development, financial and marketing departments. Descriptive analysis was also correlated and regression techniques used to obtain the results.

The Effect of Operational Flexibility on Performance: A Field Study on Small and Medium-sized Industrial Companies in Jordan

n the modern globalized world, the issue of ensuring the economic security in countries and sectors as the primary task of protection the national interests from different kinds of threats is particularly relevant. The aim of the research is to develop tools for ensuring the economic security of agrarian sector. The object is the agrarian sector of Ukraine. The period under review is 2012–2017 years. The basis of the study is the data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. To evaluation the economic security indexes are used: gross domestic product; labor productivity in the agricultural sector. The ensuring the economic security of the agrarian sector requires the creation of such mechanisms and instruments, which will assure an active investment and innovations activities, growth of production of competitive products, cost-effective operation of enterprises. The research offers a mechanism to ensure the economic security of the agricultural sector, which consists of the following units: information and analytical unit; regulatory influence unit; unit of counteraction to threats and control unit.
