A high quality soy protein isolate with significantly reduced aluminum content and substantially free of phytic acid and phytate complexes is prepared by aqueous extraction of defatted particulated soybeans at pH 8 to 10, and at a temperature above 65° C., separating the extract and then precipitating the protein out of solution, at a pH slightly higher than its isoelectric point, i.e., pH 5.3.

Process for preparing low phytate soy protein isolate

An improved corn wet milling process is disclosed, in which gluten is recovered from steepwater by membrane filtration and is incorporated in a corn gluten meal product. The process can include the steps of steeping corn kernels in an aqueous solution, thereby producing steep water which contains gluten protein; membrane filtration of the steep water, thereby producing a retentate which has a higher concentration of the gluten protein than the original steep water; reducing the water content of the retentate; and incorporating the remaining retentate into a corn gluten meal product.

Process for recovery of insoluble protein from steep water

Stable protein concentrates are prepared from whey and seed products by a process which comprises mixing the seed product and the whey, adding alkali to the mixture, and separating a juice containing soluble protein and suspended starch and fat therefrom. Then, the juice is treated to precipitate a protein concentrate either by adding acid to pH 5-6 and heating to 85°-95° C. or by adding acid to pH 3-4 and then adding sodium hexametaphosphate.

An IPSS may be configured to be constructed out of a plurality of containerized modules.

Insect production systems and methods

An improved corn wet milling process is disclosed. In a process in which corn kernels are steeped in an aqueous solution and are milled to facilitate the separation of the components thereof, in which starch from the corn is separated from gluten, and in which at least one aqueous gluten-containing stream is generated, the improvement comprises membrane filtration of an aqueous gluten-containing stream, producing a gluten-enriched retentate, and removing water from the gluten-enriched retentate, thereby producing a substantially dry gluten product. This improved process provides an economical means of recovering a higher percentage of the available protein for inclusion in high value products.
