TL;DR: Among the frailty symptoms, the onset of exhaustion was associated with an increase in total healthcare costs, whereas changes in slowness, weakness, weight loss and low-physical activity were not significantly associated with a increase intotal healthcare costs.

TL;DR: The findings highlight the role of aging as well as the occurrence of dementia and depression for frailty, and suggest that developing interventional strategies to prevent depression might be a fruitful approach in order to delay frailty in old age.
