Journal ArticleDOI

Protocol for a randomised clinical study comparing the effect of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy on reactive hypoglycaemia in morbidly obese subjects.

TL;DR: A single centre, open, 1-year randomised trial to compare the incidence of hypoglycaemia after RYGB or SG and the assessment of the comparative ability of the two surgical procedures in determining the improvement or normalisation of insulin sensitivity, given the established relevance of insulin resistance in the cardiometabolic syndrome of obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics of medium-chain triglycerides and free fatty acids in healthy volunteers and surgically stressed patients

TL;DR: The results show that use of MCTs is increased in surgical patients because of enhanced tissue uptake of the corresponding free fatty acids, whereas there does not seem to be an increase of M CT hydrolysis in response to acute disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative efficacy of different weight loss treatments on knee osteoarthritis: A network meta-analysis.

TL;DR: In this paper, a network meta-analysis compared different weight loss interventions on the improvement of osteoarthritis symptoms and clinical conditions in subjects affected by obesity and found that the most effective interventions reducing pain were bariatric surgery, low-calorie diet and exercise, and intensive weight loss and exercise.
Book ChapterDOI

Mathematical Models and State Observation of the Glucose-Insulin Homeostasis

TL;DR: This paper explores the possibility of using an asymptotic state observer for the real-time reconstruction of insulin blood concentration in an individual by using only measurements of the glucose blood concentration.
Journal Article

An economic evaluation of Clostridium difficile infection management in an Italian hospital environment

TL;DR: The cost analysis of the various elements (exams, imaging studies, therapies, etc.) shows that none independently influences the high cost burden of CDI, but that it is the simple length of hospital stay that represents the most important factor.
