A plurality of service level parameters are measured and monitored indicating a state of the resources in the system. A determination is made of values for the service level parameters and whether the service level parameter values satisfy predetermined service level thresholds. Indication is made as to whether the service level parameter values satisfy the predetermined service thresholds. A determination is made of a modification to one or more resource deployments or configurations if the value for the service level parameter for the resource does not satisfy the predetermined service level thresholds.

The techniques includes receiving a request to distribute one or more virtual objects from the list of virtual objects, the request identifying the virtual objects to be distributed and the virtual environment system with which the virtual objects are to interact. The technique includes formatting, in accordance with the data format information and the request, data representing the one or more virtual objects to be distributed and further includes distributing the one or more virtual objects.

Provided is a method, system, and program for configuring multiple resources in a system. A plurality of elements are provided that are capable of configuring resources in the system, wherein each element specifies configuration parameters to use to configure instances of the resource. Each resource is capable of being configured by multiple elements that provide a different configuration of the resource. Service information is maintained indicating at least one performance and availability attribute of the configuration of the resource by the element. At least one administrator specified performance and availability attribute for a configuration is received. A determination is made of at least one element for each resource having service information indicating at least one performance and availability attribute that satisfies the at least one administrator specified performance and availability attribute. A determination is further made of resource instances capable of being configured by the determined elements. The determined elements are then used to configure the selected resource instances.

Apparatus, and associated methods, manage technology resources in hosted applications including: demand, service level agreements, assets both hardware and software, projects, labor, knowledge and provisioning. The apparatus includes an asset manager configured to couple to host servers and a network, to manage the host servers and software deployed thereon. In embodiments of the invention the asset manager: determines demand for new assets and allocates available assets to meet the demand; determines assets not in compliance with existing software licenses; determines which host servers have actual service level metrics which are not compliant with the target service level metrics; and determines availability of a patch or upgrade for selected software and instances of the selected software among the assets. In an embodiment of the invention the asset manager couples to a contract manager with the asset manager determining the assets for which actual monitored service level metrics violate contract service level metrics. In an embodiment of the invention the asset manager couples to a product manager and scans the host severs to determine which have actual security metrics which are not compliant with the target security metrics managed by the product manager. In an embodiment of the invention the asset manager couples with a product manager, a work manager and an accounting manager to compare the actual costs of the new assets from the accounting manager and the work manager with the price of the assets from the product record.

Method and apparatus for technology resource management

Provided is a computer implemented method, system, and program for discovering a topology of a switch from an initiator device. The switch includes a plurality of switch ports. A plurality of Input/Output (I/O) devices are connected to the switch ports, wherein each I/O device and the initiator device connect to the switch through one of the switch ports. The initiator and I/O devices communicate on a first network configured by the switch and the initiator device communicates with the switch over a second network. The initiator device performs submitting a first query over the first network to the switch requesting a unique address of a plurality of I/O devices that are accessible to the initiator device over the first network. In response to the first query to the switch on the first network, the unique address of each I/O device is received from the switch. A second query is submitted over the second network to the switch for information on switch ports on the switch. In response to the second query to the switch over the second network, the information on the switch ports is received. Information on a topology of the switch ports and the initiator and I/O devices having the unique address is generated.

Method, system, and program for discovering devices communicating through a switch

A system and method for detecting or reporting service level or service outages on a network includes a meta service generator that operates on a network inventory to generate service definitions. The system is a server-based model, and each service definition includes usergroup and points of presence, thus instantiating multiple services in a manner that allows the definition to focus on relevant element events amid massive network event data, and detect service outages quickly and dependably. The outages, transaction spec outages and events so determined may be aggregated to provide overall measures that are compared with thresholds, performance criteria and other service metrics specified in a user Service Level Agreement (SLA) for billing, credit, evaluation or other purposes. Batch processing embodiments may operate with outage logs, and employ a concurrence algebra to correct outage intervals for planned and forced outages, providing a truer measure of performance that allows the system to generate multiple different reports reflecting different compensable or inconsequential outage states.
