Mechanism of hyperinsulinism in short-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency involves activation of glutamate dehydrogenase
Changhong Li,Pan Chen,Andrew A. Palladino,Srinivas B. Narayan,Laurie K. Russell,Samir Sayed,Guoxiang Xiong,Jie Chen,David Stokes,Yasmeen M. Butt,Patricia M. Jones,Heather W. Collins,Noam A. Cohen,Akiva S. Cohen,Itzhak Nissim,Thomas J. Smith,Arnold W. Strauss,Franz M. Matschinsky,Michael J. Bennett,Charles A. Stanley +19 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that SCHAD deficiency causes hyperinsulinism by activation ofGDH via loss of inhibitory regulation of GDH by SCHAD, and GDH enzyme kinetics of hadh/− islets showed an increase in GDH affinity for its substrate, α-ketoglutarate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyperinsulinism in Infancy and Childhood: When an Insulin Level Is Not Always Enough
TL;DR: The goal of treatment in infants with hyperinsulinism is to prevent brain damage from hypoglycemia by maintaining plasma glucose levels above 700 mg/L (70 mg/dL) through pharmacologic or surgical therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pancreatic head resection and Roux-en-Y pancreaticojejunostomy for the treatment of the focal form of congenital hyperinsulinism
TL;DR: Pancreatic head resection with Roux-en-Y pancreaticojejunostomy is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of the HI patient with a large focal lesion in the pancreatic head that is not amenable to local resection alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
The hyperinsulinism/hyperammonemia syndrome
TL;DR: The hyperinsulinism/hyperammonemia (HI/HA) syndrome provides a rare example of an inborn error of intermediary metabolism in which the effect of the mutation on enzyme activity is a gain of function.
Hiperinsulinismo na infância: quando apenas uma dosagem de insulina não é suficiente Hyperinsulinism in Infancy and Childhood: When an Insulin Level Is Not Always Enough
TL;DR: A hipoglicemia in bebes e criancas pode cause convulsoes, atraso de desenvolvimento e dano cerebral permanente as mentioned in this paper.
