Apparatus for producing an object by sequentially forming thin layers of a construction material one on top of the other responsive to data defining the object, the apparatus comprising: a plurality of printing heads each having a surface formed with a plurality of output orifices and controllable to dispense the construction material through each orifice independently of the other orifices; a shuttle to which the printing heads are mounted; a support surface; and a controller adapted to control the shuttle to move back and forth over the support surface and as the shuttle moves to control the printing heads to dispense the construction material through each of their respective orifices responsive to the data to form a first layer on the support surface and thereafter, sequentially the other layers; wherein each printing head is dismountable from the shuttle and replaceable independently of the other printing heads.

A reinforcement rib is provided at the reverse side of the elongated side molding in longitudinal direction and a portion of the reinforcement rib is elevated to form a welding rib. In the clip as an attachment member, a rib hole is provided for inserting the welding rib therein and the open side of the rib hole from which the welding rib is projecting is formed with a larger bore. The side molding body is integrally formed with the attachment member by housing a dislocation preventing portion formed by heat riveting a tip end of the welding rib inserted into the rib hole of the attachment member. A riveting apparatus includes a hot air pipe; a connection pipe coupled to the hot air pipe; a forming tool having a configuration in which peripheral and center portions project downward and portions existing therebetween are curved upward, defined with discharge holes which extend in axial and radial directions, and coupled to a lower end of the connection pipe so that hot air having passed through the connection pipe can be discharged through the discharge holes to heat an end of a rivet to thereby allow the forming tool to form the end of the rivet into the shape of a head; a moving unit coupled to the hot air pipe or the connection pipe to move the forming tool upward and downward; and a guide surrounding the forming tool so that hot air discharged through the discharge holes can be directed toward the end of the rivet.

An apparatus for heat staking utilizes an infrared lamp to direct radiant energy onto a plastic part to heat and so soften it prior to the staking punch impacting the part. The apparatus comprises an energy directing means for concentrating the infrared energy onto the part, and a moveable carriage for moving the punch toward and away from the part. One embodiment of the energy concentrating means is a reflector, wherein the reflector includes a central aperture for admission of the part, and wherein the reflector comprises different curved sections for concentrating the energy over the surface of the part. In an alternate embodiment, the energy directing means comprises fiber optic cables for directing the infrared energy to the surface of the part.

An infrared welder for thermoplastic materials comprising the combination of a halogen lamp producing illumination in the infrared band located at the focal point of a first parabolic reflector. The parabolic reflector is joined in a substantially continuous fashion with a non-imaging lower reflector such as a Winston cone or a “CPC” having a lower aperture through which essentially all of the radiation from the source is directed. The aperture defines the shape and size of the weld area. The lower reflector may be brought into contact with the thermoplastic materials during the welding operation. Alternatively, a selectively operable press device may be used. Several embodiments are disclosed including embodiments which produce circular spot welds, linear welds, curved welds and corner welds.
