TL;DR: It is shown that the problem of classification of images that have the perfectly random nature may be solved with the help of synthetic discriminant functions being synthesized by least-squares technique to separate linearly the power spectra of the corresponding random image fields.

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for generating propagation invariant fields of the third kind (PIFs-III) is proposed and its capacity is demonstrated by experimental results for the optical synthesis of light string and light capillary beams.
Abstract: Propagation-invariant fields of the third kind (PIFs-III) are defined on the basis of a modal theory proposed recently by the authors. We show the existence of specific PIFs-III termed light string and light capillary beams, which are characterized by the extremely sharply localized transverse intensity distribution propagating in free space without expansion. A technique for generating the PIFs-III is proposed and its capacity is demonstrated by experimental results for the optical synthesis of the light string and light capillary beams.

TL;DR: According to Wolf's theory of partial coherence in the space-frequency domain, the cross-spectral density function of any steady-state optical field may be represented in the form of Mercer expansion.
