A Jacobian-free approximate Newton–Krylov startup strategy for RANS simulations
TL;DR: A Jacobian-free approximate Newton–Krylov algorithm that uses only the exact and approximate residual formulations and can be generalized with minimal additional implementation effort to a range of solvers and discretizations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Robust aerodynamic shape optimization—From a circle to an airfoil
TL;DR: The combination of flow solver robustness, precision of gradient information, robust mesh deformation, and adaptive parametrization brings us closer to a “push-button” solution for airfoil design.
Journal ArticleDOI
ADflow: An Open-Source Computational Fluid Dynamics Solver for Aerodynamic and Multidisciplinary Optimization
TL;DR: Computational fluid dynamics through the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations with turbulence models has become commonplace, but simply solving these equations is not sufficient to be able to solve the turbulence models.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Aeropropulsive Design Optimization of a Boundary Layer Ingestion System
TL;DR: This work optimized the BLI system design of the STARC–ABL configuration at a number of net force and fan pressure ratio (FPR) values using a coupled aeropropulsive approach, and shows that the power requirement is more sensitive to the thrust required from theBLI system, while the stagnation pressure distribution at the wake is moresensitive to FPR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Boundary-Layer Ingestion Benefit for the STARC-ABL Concept
TL;DR: In this paper , 3-D RANS simulations are used to model the aerodynamics, and 1-D thermodynamic cycle analyses are used for the propulsion system of the single-aisle turboelectric aircraft with aft boundary-layer propulsion (STARC-ABL) concept.
