Security in product lifecycle of IoT devices: A survey

Nowadays, the huge number of smart connected objects and the massive data amount produced require intelligent approaches for their management and supervision. Accordingly, Software Defined Networking (SDN) is considered as a promising paradigm for Internet of things (IoT) management. The IoT is now involved deeply in our daily activities and influences considerably our life style; from the way we drive, to how we make purchases or even what we should eat or not to maintain our health etc. The diversity of IoT related applications necessitates flexible, agile and adaptable IoT architecture. To meet this requirement, the design of IoT architecture based on SDN involves decoupling control plane from data plane to integrating intelligent management functionalities. In this context, this survey highlights the IoT network management functionalities and studies the correlation between SDN and IoT with focuses the role played by SDN to improve the management effectiveness of IoT networks. Furthermore, deep investigation is elaborated related to the SDN-IoT architectures and applications and some open issues and future research directions are provided.

Internet of Things Management Based on Software Defined Networking: A Survey

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are the intelligent system that allows vehicles to act like nodes, where there is a starting node, end node and any vehicle between these nodes can act as an intermediate node. Every node has high mobility and fast-changing topology. Each node can sense its coverage area to make available services related to traffic control. To make a connection between nodes routing is done with the help of routing protocol. The reactive routing protocol called Ad-Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) is the most advanced and commonly used in topology-based routing. Nodes (i.e. Vehicles) are fast moving thus the connection between nodes breaks frequently. This paper, we are going to analyze the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters for UDP and TCP traffic types. This paper is presenting a normal AODV routing protocol to analyze QoS parameters that are Delay and Throughput. We are using Linux based platform software's and doing result analysis using Network Simulator-2 (NS-2).

Performance Analysis of Traffic Types in AODV Routing Protocol for VANETs

The exponential rises in wireless communication technologies and allied application demands have revitalized academia-industries to achieve more efficient Quality of Service (QoS) centric communication solutions. To achieve it, in the last few years Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology has emerged as a potential solution. However, ensuring QoS provision and reliable communication across the network has always been a challenge for research community. Being a highly interfaced and complex paradigm IoT requires assuring secure communication across the network to achieve QoS and reliable data transmission. Assuring end-to-end security in IoT has revitalized academia-industries to develop more effective solution by developing advanced cryptosystem methods; however maintaining lightweight computation, seamless communication and QoS delivery simultaneously has been a driving force behind numerous ongoing researches. With this motive, in this paper emphasis is made on studying and assessing different security challenges in IoT ecosystem, solutions proposed so far and scopes for further optimization so as to develop a more effective IoT security system. The survey paper revealed that though numerous efforts have been made to augment IoT communication security, majority of the classical approaches either undergoes high computational overheads or impacts QoS delivery with real-time network solution. Additionally, it reveals that most of the existing systems focus on using single cryptosystem for communication security; however it fails alleviating different attack scenarios with different breaching actions. Majority of the existing approaches are found confined to address the security-vulnerabilities such asSmart Card Loss Attack (SCLA), offline password guessing using Brute Force attack, sensor node spoofing, privileged-insider and Session specific temporary information attack (SSTIA), etc. It suggests designing a robust security model with lightweight cryptosystem armored with multilevel security and authentication system.

Secure Internet-of- Things: Assessing Challenges and Scopes for NextGen Communication

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) are considered a promising application in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). It is characterized by a high mobility, a high density of nodes, and a very constrained topology that require a more suitable and more reliable routing protocol. Hence, the need to optimize the current routing protocols used in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET), in order to increase their performance in VANET. Broadcast communication method remains a very important step to adapt the broadcast information to other nodes and to select the routes in better conditions. In this article, we propose a new broadcast approach based on the neighborhood broadcasting methods. Based on this solution, we present an improving Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) to reduce the number of dropped packets, and minimize network overhead. The simulation shows encouraging results of our proposed approach.

A Novel Route Discovery Mechanism Based on Neighborhood Broadcasting Methods in VANET

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new emerging technology of the Internet. Traditionally, Internet has been connecting people and sharing information through human intervention. IoT is an extension of internet, whose aim is to provide machine to machine (M 2M) or object to object (O2O) communication without human intervention. It independently has technical knowledge of the system in existing environment which is leading towards “communication era of entities” but there are various security issues and challenges such as privacy, data protection, DOS attacks, dealing with the bulky data collected by IoT devices, increasing transparency, access control, authentication and many more whose solution need to be addressed. This work acquainted the hybrid approach for securing IoT communication using authentication and data confidentiality to address the vulnerabilities in IoT network.

Hybrid approach for securing IoT communication using authentication and data confidentiality

Gathering of mobile nodes which are interconnected to each other without any unified power is called an Ad-hoc network. One of the most dynamic and self-arranging protocols utilized to keep up those kind of Ad-hoc network more effectively and efficiently is Ad-hoc on Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol (AODV). Since, nodes in VANET are highly versatile in nature, routing in between the node breaks quickly that can degrade the network performance. This paper is based on the techniques of fundamental of AODV working depends on. Initially, the strategy enhances HELLO and Control messages working by sharing neighboring node information amongst the nodes. This helps the protocol in reducing the congestion from the network, and the other technique creates an alternative route option for faster delivery of data packets. Both the strategies work productively in order to improve the network performance. The proposed algorithm (I-AODV) enhances the packet delivery rate along with abatements the bandwidth use.
