Watermarking is an important technique for protecting sensitive e-multimedia data and intellectual property. Watermarking techniques are used for many applications such as ownership protection, which is a popular area of research as compared to others such as authentication and local temper localization. There are many image watermarking schemes that have been recently published based on the frequency domain as it can fulfill watermarking requirements such as high robustness and imperceptibility. Singular-value decomposition (SVD) is one of them and is used in many frequency transform-based image watermarking schemes due to its stability and mathematical simplicity. However, there are many schemes that lack robustness against malicious cyberattacks, whereby the watermarks are easy to detect and destroy. Consequently, the proposed watermarking schemes became more complicated and cannot resist various geometric and non-geometric attacks. Thus, there are many existing hybrid SVD-based image watermarking schemes found be insecure. As there is also a lack of in-depth reviews in this domain, the focus of this paper is the analysis of the state-of-the-art in hybrid SVD-based image watermarking. We perform efficiency comparisons to highlight various security problems, open issues, and research gaps. Based on our findings, we additionally provide some recommendations for the development of more robust schemes in the future. This paper provides essential information for researchers and practitioners alike to advance the field of image watermarking.

Hybrid SVD-Based Image Watermarking Schemes: A Review

An adaptive image steganography method based on integer wavelet transform using genetic algorithm

Zero-watermarking methods provide promising solutions and impressive performance for copyright protection of images without changing the original images. In this paper, a novel zero-watermarking method for color images is envisioned. Our envisioned approach is based on multi-channel orthogonal Legendre Fourier moments of fractional orders, referred to as MFrLFMs. In this method, a highly precise Gaussian integration method is utilized to calculate MFrLFMs. Then, based on the selected accurate MFrLFMs moments, a zero-watermark is constructed. Due to their accuracy, geometric invariances, and numerical stability, the proposed MFrLFMs-based zero-watermarking method shows excellent resistance against various attacks. Performed experiments using the proposed watermarking method show the outperformance over existing watermarking algorithms.

Digital image steganography survey and investigation (goal, assessment, method, development, and dataset)

The development of information technology has led to a significant increase in the share of multimedia traffic in data networks. This has necessitated to solve the following information security tasks in relation to multimedia data: protection against leakage of confidential information, as well as identifying the source of the leak; ensuring the impossibility of unauthorized changes; copyright protection for digital objects. To solve such kind of problems, methods of steganography and watermarking are designed that implement embedding in digital objects hidden information sequences for various purposes. In this paper, an overview of promising research in the specified area is provided. First of all, we provide basic information about this field of research and consider the main applications of its methods. Next, we review works demonstrating current trends in the development of methods and algorithms for data hiding in digital images. This review is not exhaustive; it focuses on contemporary works illustrating current research directions in the field of information embedding in digital images. This is the main feature of review, which distinguishes it from previously published reviews. The paper concludes with an analysis of identified problems in the field of digital steganography and digital watermarking.

Overview of Information Hiding Algorithms for Ensuring Security in IoT Based Cyber-Physical Systems

One of the areas of digital image processing is the steganographic embedding of additional information into them. Digital steganography methods are used to ensure the information confidentiality, as well as to track the distribution of digital content on the Internet. Main indicators of the steganographic embedding effectiveness are invisibility to the human eye, characterized by the PSNR metric, and embedding capacity. However, even with full visual stealth of embedding, its presence may produce a distortion of the digital image natural model in the frequency domain. The article presents a new approach to reducing the distortion of the digital image natural model in the field of discrete cosine transform (DCT) when embedding information using the classical QIM method. The results of the experiments show that the proposed approach allows reducing the distortion of the histograms of the distribution of DCT coefficients, and thereby eliminating the unmasking signs of embedding.

A New Approach to Reducing the Distortion of the Digital Image Natural Model in the DCT Domain When Embedding Information According to the QIM Method

In the field of information technology, information security technologies hold a special place. They ensure the security of the use of information technology. One of the urgent tasks is the protection of electronic documents during their transfer in information systems. This paper proposes a technology for protecting electronic documents containing digital images. The main idea is that the electronic document authorship protection can be implemented by digital watermark embedding in the images that are contained in this document. The paper considers three cases of using the proposed technology: full copying of an electronic document, copying of images contained in the document, and copying of text. It is shown that in all three cases the authorship confirmation can be successfully implemented. Computational experiments are conducted with robust watermarking algorithms that can be used within the technology. A scenario of technology implementation is proposed, which provides for the joint use of different class algorithms.
