Journal ArticleDOI
Installation and capacity of dynamically embedded plate anchors as assessed through centrifuge tests
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of a dynamically embedded plate anchor (DEPLA) was evaluated through a series of beam centrifuge tests conducted at 200 times earth's gravity, and the results showed that the DEPLA exhibits similar behaviour to other dynamically installed anchors during installation, with tip embedments of 1.6-2.8 times the anchor length.
Journal ArticleDOI
Installation of dynamically embedded plate anchors as assessed through field tests
Anthony Blake,Conleth O'Loughlin +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a dynamically embedded plate anchor (DEPLA) is a rocket-shaped anchor that comprises a removable central shaft and a set of four flukes, and the flukes constitute the loadbearing element as a plate anchor.
Book ChapterDOI
CPT-based design procedure for installation torque prediction for screw piles installed in sand.
Therar Al-Baghdadi,Michael E. Brown,Craig Davidson,Jonathan Knappett,Andrew Brennan,Lei Wang,William M. Coombs,C.W. Augarde,David Richards,Anthony Blake +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a CPT-based method was proposed to predict the required installation torque for modified screw pile geometries for offshore wind turbines in different soil types and stress histories.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Finite Element approach for determining the full load-displacement relationship of axially-loaded shallow screw anchors, incorporating installation effects
Benjamin Cerfontaine,Jonathan Knappett,Michael E. Brown,Craig Davidson,Therar Al-Baghdadi,Yaseen Sharif,Andrew Brennan,Charles E. Augarde,William M. Coombs,Lei Wang,Anthony Blake,David Richards,Jonathan David Ball +12 more
TL;DR: Screw anchors have been recognized as an innovative solution to support offshore jacket structures and floating systems, due to their low-noise installation and potential enhanced uplift capacity as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
On the use of domain-based material point methods for problems involving large distortion
Lei Wang,William M. Coombs,Charles E. Augarde,Michael Cortis,T.J. Charlton,Michael E. Brown,Jonathan Knappett,Andrew Brennan,Craig Davidson,David Richards,Anthony Blake +10 more
TL;DR: A study of the behaviour of some of these domain-based MPMs for modelling problems involving large elasto-plastic deformation including distortion finds that domain distortion with the CPDI2 approaches affects some solutions and there is a particular issue with one approach.
