Second-order elasticity theory: Explanation for the high poisson's ratio of the inner core

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the value of Poisson's ratio for the inner core (∼0.445) is compatible with a rigid metal, such as iron, which would yield the observed high value when subjected to core pressures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measurements of thermal expansions of small mineral crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, a capacitance micrometer was developed for the measurement of thermal expansions of small crystals over moderate temperature ranges (approximately 100 K above laboratory temperature) and linear coefficients were obtained to ± 0.5×10−6 K−1 and volume coefficients to ± 1.5 × 10−6 k−1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Second order elasticity theory: An improved formulation of the Grüneisen parameter at high pressure

TL;DR: The second order theory of elasticity, in which terms to second order in strain are retained in calculating atomic bond length changes and elastic moduli, is extended to describe thermal vibration of a face-centred cubic crystal as discussed by the authors.
