Developing methods to screen sugarcane varieties for resistance to fiji leaf gall

TL;DR: Two greenhouse-based techniques have been developed to provide reliable ratings for resistance to Fiji leaf gall and there was no correlation between planthopper numbers on the test clones and their reaction to the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a novel member of the family Caulimoviridae infecting Dioscorea nummularia in the Pacific, which may represent a new genus of dsDNA plant viruses.

TL;DR: The genome size, organization, and presence of conserved amino acid domains are similar to other viruses in the family Caulimoviridae, however, based on nucleotide sequence similarity and phylogenetic analysis, DNUaV appears to be a distinct novel member of the family and may represent a new genus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification and molecular characterization of Taro bacilliform virus and Taro bacilliform CH virus from East Africa.

TL;DR: This is the first report describing the occurrence and genome organization of TaBV and TaBCHV isolates from East Africa and the first full-length sequence of the two viruses from tannia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization and genetic diversity of Dioscorea bacilliform viruses present in a Pacific yam germplasm collection

TL;DR: In this paper, a total of 224 yam accessions present in the Pacific germplasm collection at SPC-CePaCT, Fiji, were tested for the presence of badnaviruses using a combination of rolling circle amplification (RCA) and sequencing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular characterisation of a putative new polerovirus infecting pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) in Kenya.

TL;DR: Next-generation sequencing of RNA extracted from a pumpkin plant with mosaic symptoms in Kenya identified the presence of a polerovirus sequence closely related to pepo aphid-borne yellows virus (PABYV), which is suggested to be a putative novel member of the genus Polerov virus.
