Journal ArticleDOI

SIMO: An adaptable simulation framework for multiscale forest resource data

TL;DR: The article includes two use cases demonstrating the adaptability of the SIMO framework, which is available as open source software and connected through a common ontology, again defined in XML.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uncertainty in timber assortment estimates predicted from forest inventory data

TL;DR: In this paper, the uncertainty factors related to inventory methodologies and forest-planning simulation computings in the estimation of logging outturn assortment volumes and values were examined, and the results showed that the most significant source of error in the prediction of clear-cutting assortment outturns was inventory error.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Individual Tree Detection Error Sources on Forest Management Planning Calculations

TL;DR: Investigation of the error sources of the airborne laser scanning based individual tree detection (ITD), and its effects on forest management planning calculations, found that detection of trees, error in tree height prediction and error inTree diameter prediction were the investigated error sources.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of various sources of uncertainty in stand-level net present value estimates

TL;DR: In this paper, the relative importance of various sources of uncertainties in determining the net present value of forest stands and forested property was compared by performing stand-level simulations that took into account: i) input data errors (airborne laser-scanning data vs. ocular standwise field inventory data), ii) stochastic future development of timber assortment prices and iii) errors in standlevel growth projection models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Correlations, distributions, and trends in forest inventory errors and their effects on forest planning

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the effect of forest planning errors on forest planning systems and found that errors in forest planning data can have various undesired effects, which have been examined previously by simulating their impact on forest plans.
