Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction of Oropharyngeal Carriage of Haemophilus influenzae Type b (Rib) in Children Immunized with an Rib Conjugate Vaccine
TL;DR: Hib conjugate vaccine, unlike Hib polysaccharide vaccine, seems to be able to prevent oropharyngeal colonization by Hib.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resistance to erythromycin in group A streptococci.
Helena Seppälä,Antti Nissinen,H Järvinen,S Huovinen,T Henriksson,E Herva,S E Holm,Jahkola M,M L Katila,Klaukka T +9 more
TL;DR: In Finland since 1988 there has been a rapid and substantial increase in resistance to erythromycin in group A streptococci, and the extent of this resistance is particularly serious since there are only a few alternative antibiotics available for peroral treatment of group A Streptococcal infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Three different phenotypes of erythromycin-resistant Streptococcus pyogenes in Finland
Journal ArticleDOI
Increasing antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis in Finland.
TL;DR: Respiratory and otitis isolates of 807 Streptococcus pneumoniae, 816 Haemophilus influenzae and 446 Moraxella catarrhalis were collected from 21 clinical microbiology laboratories for antimicrobial susceptibility testing in 1995, and beta-lactamase production increased among middle ear isolates from children under 6 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of β-Lactamase-Mediated Resistance to Penicillin in Middle-Ear Isolates of Moraxella catarrhalis in Finnish Children, 1978–1993
Antti Nissinen,Grönroos P,Pentti Huovinen,Herva E,Marja-Leena Katila,Klaukka T,Sirkka Kontiainen,Liimatainen O,Oinonen S,Mäkelä Ph +9 more
TL;DR: The frequency of beta-lactamase-producing strains of H. influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis did not increase between 1978 and 1993, and the consumption of cephalosporins increased substantially in the community.
