Preparation and characterization of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)/poly(ε-caprolactone) amphiphilic block copolymeric nanospheres for tumor-specific folate-mediated targeting of anticancer drugs

The generation of supramolecular architectures with well-defined structures and functionalities is recently garnering attraction. Self-assemblage of amphiphilic polymers leads to the formation of polymeric micelles that demonstrate unique set of characteristics such as excellent biocompatibility, low toxicity, enhanced blood circulation time, and solubilization of poorly water-soluble drugs. In this article, we provide an up-to-date review on important aspects of polymeric micelles. Critical factors for solubilization of hydrophobic drugs in the micellar core are discussed. Polymeric micelles can be used as ‘smart’ drug carriers for targeting certain areas of the body. Here, we have especially emphasized on the recent developments in the targetability of certain tissues such as cancerous tissues using polymeric micelles. Polymeric micelles: authoritative aspects for drug delivery

Light scattering was used to determine the dependence of the critical micelle temperature on concentration for solutions of a polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene/propylene) copolymer in n-hexane, n-heptane, n-oxtane, n-decane, and n-dodecane. The results were used to estimated the standard Gibbs energy, ΔG°, the standard enthalpy, ΔH°, and the standard entropy, ΔS°, of micellation. The values of ΔH° were large and negative and were markedly dependent on the carbon number of the lower n-alkanes. The values of ΔG° are negative for all n-alkanes studied

The concentration and temperature dependences of micelle formation by a polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene/propylene) copolymer in n-hexane, n-heptane, n-octane, n-dodecane, and n-hexadecane are examined by light scattering and viscometry. At concentrations above the cmc an unusually large scattering intensity is found. The experimental dependences of light scattering and viscosity data on the concentration were always linear within the concentration range of 1×10 -3 to 5×10 -3 g.cm -3 for all the n-alkanes and temperatures studied. Molar mass and dimension of the micelles have been found to be independent of temperature
